Hey guys! So I am not really one to post much on social media and prefer talking one on one with all of my customers, however I thought I'd share some more information about my rattery and how it works. As well as frequently asked questions.
1. We are very one on one with our customers and do require all of our questions to be answered before being added to our waitlist.
2. We do go in order of our waitlist, and no names are missed. However if you do happen to find rats while waiting, it's important to let us know so we can keep our waitlist up to date.
3. We help provide education for all new rat owners and how to best prepare for adopting rats.
4. We do not work with any transport. Pick ups only. We are located in Mount Airy Maryland.
5. We do not take deposits. Payment upon pick up only. We do not accept checks or credit/ debit cards, we do accept cash or mobial pay options.
6. There is a small adoption application to fill out upon pick up.
7. A proper carrier is required for pick up.
8. Every rat adopted from Fur Friends comes with 1 small free toy from our shop! I feel this helps to have something that is familiar smell when adjusting to a new home.
9. We always recommend 24 to 48 hours with no interaction after bringing rats home. This gives them time to adjust to all the new sounds and smells before handling.
Frequently asked questions,
1. How long have you been breeding for?
I've been breeding both Standard and Dwarf rats for 5 years now and within the past year I have been working on crossing the lines to produce more variety of colors and patterns. In my first 2 years of breeding it was a lot of trials, errors and learning along the way. I did not have good mentors when I started and had to learn a lot on my own. This is also a big reason why I help to educate all of my customers with all of the essential information on rat care.
2. How do I keep track of all of my rats?
The short answer to this would be lots of binders and notes. I keep a binder for all of my standard rats and one for my dwarfs, as well as a binder for all of my current rat invintory and all adoptions. Keeping all my paperwork very organized and chooseing simple names for my keepers helps me keep track of all of my ratties!
3. What age are babies able to be adopted?
We separate our boys and girls at 4 weeks old, we take official photos at 5 weeks old, and adopt out between 7-8 weeks old.
