Ready to meet your Ride-or-Die Best Friend? Two-year old Shine is a 40 # Border Collie who lives up to his name in every way. Gentle, smart, and thoughtful, he’s the kind of dog who quietly wins your heart and keeps it for life. A true gentleman, Shine is equally happy spending time at home or heading out for an adventure. Love from his human means more to him than any treat.

Shine is curious and fun to be around. He enjoys playing with other dogs, adores his human, and loves to cuddle with his foster canine sibling or the kitty (he’s great with cats!). Wonderful recall. He radiates happiness while chasing a ball around the yard or playing in the hose/sprinkler on a hot day.

He prefers a calm, positive environment without a lot of excess noise, making a suburb or rural setting ideal. Shine will blossom in a home where the primary language is kindness and he gets lots of time with his family. A canine or feline friend would be a bonus. Calm older kids are likely ok, especially if they will play fetch!

Shine adapts easily to his person’s lifestyle, whether that includes neighborhood walks, hiking, playing frisbee, or watching funny cat videos on the couch. He has a medium level of energy and likes to see new things, but doesn’t demand a ton of exercise. He’s been to parks, a fire station, and Home Depot, taking it all in with his bright eyes and cheerful, trusting demeanor.

Shine is working on potty training (schedule is key!) and gaining confidence. With patience and gentle encouragement, he’ll become the self-assured love bug he was born to be. He walks beautifully on leash, crates quietly (though he prefers being with his people), and wants a fenced yard or a family that can keep him safe on leash.

If you’re looking for a dog who will be your loyal shadow, adventure partner, and true BFF, Shine is ready to be that and more. APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt

Shine is being fostered in Scandia, MN.

As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Shine's adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He will be neutered on 8/14/25, is microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Due to an allergy in his adoptive home, the adorable Lucky is back with us and up for adoption!!

Lucky is an irresistibly vibrant pup born in October 2024, currently 26 #. A spirited "mixy mix," he is bursting with enthusiasm and brimming with a love of life. Clever and incredibly intuitive, he’s the kind of dog who lights up the room: tail wagging, eyes sparkling, heart wide open.

Lucky thrives on human connection. He eagerly soaks up attention, adores treats and squeaky toys, and will happily curl up with a chew bone after a lively play session. Every interaction with people, especially those who match his zest, is a chance for him to shine. He’s food-motivated and eager to please, making him a quick learner looking for guidance on how to be the best boy.

He’s on his way to becoming housebroken (routine is the name of the game). Fabulous overnight in his crate, though he prefers not to be left alone in it during the day (starting with short stints in his crate will help him be comfortable in it over time). On walks, Lucky struts proudly on leash, mildly distracted by squirrels … but his love of his people and treats makes redirection a breeze. While out and about on crowded paths full of bikes, dogs, and rollerbladers, he navigates the activity with cool curiosity.

Lucky would thrive in an active, fun-loving family, especially one with a fenced yard. Dog-savvy kids who can gently direct his playful puppy nibbles to appropriate toys would be a fit. While he doesn’t require a canine sibling, he might enjoy one. That said, Lucky lives for PEOPLE. His puppy teeth and bouncing paws are signs of a big personality and reflect his excitement with everything life brings.

If you're looking for a joyful, adventurous companion who will love you fiercely and keep you on your toes, Lucky might just be the perfect match. All he asks is that you are ready to be loved to the moon and back.

Lucky was recently adopted but had to come back to us when a child in the home had an allergic reaction to him. The family was absolutely heartbroken (as were we!), but had tried everything to make it work.

Lucky is being fostered in Brooklyn Park, MN.

Paul.

Lucky's adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Update: Adoption Pending!

At 6 years old and 46 pounds, Bear is a sensitive soul wrapped in a soft Border Collie coat. He’s a simple, unassuming guy. His theme song is “Bare Necessities” from The Jungle Book... all he wants is a gentle ear rub, the joy of greeting his people when they come home from work, and the opportunity to take leisurely strolls through his neighborhood.

Bear is not the kind of dog who demands attention or wants lots of activity around him. He prefers to quietly place his head on your chest to let you know he cares. He’s not an adventurer or a high-energy pup, preferring instead to pour all of his love into his family members. Don’t get us wrong – he loves to meet new friends while out and about – that makes his day! He’s a champion on leash, ignoring bikes, buses, and other dogs. Loud noises can startle him, but he recovers quickly.

Bear is brave in his own way, facing the world with quiet courage despite uncertainty. This mellow guy thrives in a calm environment. He’d be perfect for someone who works from home or has a steady routine. He doesn’t need a yard (in fact, he finds them a bit puzzling), and we have not heard him bark. Apartment living would suit him just fine. No patios or dog parks for this guy, both are a little too busy and noisy for his taste.

Reliably housebroken. Loves his crate - he’ll happily spend hours there unless encouraged to explore other hobbies. He’s learning that toys and treats can be fun! Bear could live with another dog who has the same easy-going approach to life or be an only pup. Gentle kitties could be friends (bossy kitties would scare him). He prefers a home without loud noises, so older kids would be best.

A quick video of Bear's "look of love" is at https://www.youtube.com/shorts/LKpsJL-Pgm4?feature=share

If you’re looking for a lower energy, quiet and intuitive best friend and confidante, Bear could be your guy. APPLY to adopt him at HOABCR.org/how-to-adopt
