PLEASE ATTEND IF YOU CAN!!
If you are interested in protecting public spaces in Mound, you are needed at the city council meeting on Tuesday, August 12.

City council will be talking about potentially selling public parkland to developers. They have also stopped almost all further development at Lost Lake Commons (the park near the parking ramp) despite previously voting to approve the plans, and they blocked four planned free park programs that were supposed to take place this August.

Your presence alone will make a big difference in the Parks Commission and City Council workshop from 5-6; at the start of the official council meeting at 6, any resident is allowed to speak for up to 3 minutes on any topic. If you have feedback on the workshop, that would be a great time to deliver it.
Attendance at both meetings is open to the public

Please feel free to pass along this information to any Mound residents that you think will be interested. The more people, the better. Our goals are for council to make decisions with full transparency for the public, honor the previous votes and commitments they have agreed to, and encourage them to protect and fund public spaces for all residents to enjoy.

HAPPY NATIONAL KITTY DAY😻
(video from Minnesota Zoo)

07/02/2025

With all the posts about what not to do with your pets on 4th of July, I thought we should come up with some creative ideas of what our furry friends can be doing on this eventful holiday!

🎆🐾 Skip the Fireworks—Here’s How to Celebrate the 4th of July with Your Dog the Fun (and Calm) Way! 🐶❤️

Not all pups love the pop and bang of fireworks—and that’s okay! There are plenty of fun, enriching, and relaxing ways to celebrate Independence Day with your furry best friend.

Here are some firework-free activities to keep tails wagging all day long:

🧠 Brain Games
• Stuff a Kong or puzzle toy with frozen peanut butter or treats
• Play “Find It” with hidden treats around the house
• Try a snuffle mat or treat-filled ice block for sniffy fun

🐾 Burn Off Energy (Before the Booms)
• Splash in the sprinkler or kiddie pool
• Build an obstacle course in the yard or living room
• Go for an early hike or long walk before fireworks start

🧸 Chill & Cuddle Time
• Host a cozy movie night with calming music
• Enjoy a pup-friendly indoor picnic
• Give your dog a massage or brushing session

🎉 Festive (But Quiet) Fun
• Make frozen dog popsicles
• Dress them up in a patriotic bandana for a photo shoot
• Create paw print art as a keepsake

💤 Wind-Down Tools for the Evening
• Turn on white noise or soothing tunes
• Offer frozen lick mats or calming chews
• Build a “pup fort” for snuggles and security

🇺🇸 Let’s make this 4th of July fun and fear-free for our dogs! Share your quiet celebration ideas or cute pup pics below! 📸👇

FULL/PART TIME DOG WALKING/PET SITTING POSITION:

Service area (square): N to hwy 12, E to cty 19, S to hwy 7, W to cty 92

Looking for somebody to walk dogs and help with pet sitting(pets stay in their own home). Need somebody willing to sleep at client's homes some of the time.

Dog walks would be m-f between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and typically done by 3:00 p.m. or before. Averaging 3 to 5 (30min)walks per day.

Pet sitting- we offer pet sitting 365 days a year, you would be responsible for helping with pet sitting during the week as well as committing to working two weekends per month and willingness to share the work on holidays. Which means you may have stops before your daily walks around 7/8am and/or late at night around 9:00 or 10:00 p.m. The whole team works together to get pet sitting jobs covered!

REQUIREMENTS:
Experience working with dogs and cats, more than simply being a pet owner.

Strong dedicated work ethic, these are living creatures and family members to our clients. So their care is top priority.

Need the stamina to walk a steady pace for 30 minutes repeatedly with an average of 5 to 15 minutes between walks(drive time)

Strong enough to handle large muscular dogs, with the willingness to walk more than one at a time( typically not more than two).

Your own reliable transportation and a current Minnesota driver's license and insurance.

Clean criminal record

The willingness to work in all weather conditions including heavy rain, extreme heat- up to 90° and extreme cold winter conditions- down to zero degrees or a -20 wind chill. We move to indoor play when it hits these extreme temperatures or there is lightning which could be dangerous to us and the pets. During winter pet sitting that does mean having to go out into winter storms to make sure that the animals are taken care of!

Willingness and ability to clean up messes created by pets including but not limited to damaged property and ripped up toys, vomit, diarrhea and urine accidents.

Be comfortable with all breeds and types of dogs as well as cats, chickens and other caged animals like birds and reptiles.

Willingness to learn or already possess the ability to administer medications including injections as we have a few diabetic animals that need insulin daily.

* This is a tough job and takes a tough hard-working person but is extremely rewarding work! I guarantee there are few jobs out there that offer all of the love and kisses this one does!

This is a subcontractor position that pays per job it does not have an hourly rate. Bathroom breaks and dog walks range from $10-15/visit, pet sitting jobs are based on the client needs and the number of pets being cared for and typically range between 10 to $20 per visit. An overnight is $50 and we stay for 12 hours at night approximately 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., additional pay on holidays!

While most people are enjoying a leisurely holiday weekend, for wildlife rehabbers Memorial Day weekend = fawn season. We have assisted 10 people with fawn concerns already today.

So here is a crash course in when to call us, when to come straight in, and when to take comfort that you have found a healthy fawn.

- Fawns spend a lot of time alone. Mom will leave the fawn while she forages throughout the day. That little fawn simply cannot keep up with her. If you find a fawn, leave it alone unless you see signs of concerns outlined below.

- Any injured fawn can come straight to us - no need to call.

- Fawns should be curled up, looking alert (or sleeping). Unlike cats and dogs, fawns do NOT stretch out on their sides. If you find a fawn stretched out on its side, it'll probably be too weak to lift its head. Bring it to WRC immediately.

- If the fawn becomes separated from mom it will cry for her. This is perfectly normal. Mom may not be within hearing distance, so the fawn may call repeatedly, bed down for an hour or so then call again.

- A fawn that is running around crying nonstop for hours (truly, nonstop) probably needs help. Give us a call: 651-486-9453.

- Never feed a fawn. They have sensitive GI systems and diarrhea can be lethal.

- Do not chase a fawn. Fawns can die from capture myopathy (from a medical standpoint it's actually a fascinating chemical reaction and worth the Google). Make sure if you have to transport a fawn it's in a large enough pet carrier (borrow one if you need to) with a blanket and then another blanket covering the door. Never transport a fawn in your arms or loose in the car. Keep the fawn in a very quiet dark area until you can transport it to us.

As always, we're here to answer your questions. This time of year you will likely reach our voicemail. We will do our best to call you back within an hour.
