Great information from the IWCA for potential puppy buyers. A good look into why I have so many questions for you and why I keep my pups for 10-12 weeks of age. Please do read carefully. If you would like to leave a deposit on an individual puppy, the amount will always be set aside and is fully refundable. I plan on showing my stud dog and possibly two of my ladies in the next few years. Please do some research. These hounds are not an impulse purchase!! DO YOU WANT AN IRISH WOLFHOUND PUPPY?
Here are some tips to help you.
First, If you ask for a puppy in this public group, 🚩🚩🚩you will be swarmed by FAKE scammers from around the world who will show you stolen photos, take your money, but have no hound. You will pay and never hear from them again. It’s heartbreaking how many people are getting ripped off in social media. So we admins try to protect you; that’s why we don’t allow posts asking for puppies. It’s not you! We ban scammers literally every day. 🚩🚩🚩if you are uncomfortable or want to confirm whether someone is legit, do ask.
TOP SAFETY TIP: NO responsible breeder will ask you for a nonrefundable deposit or ship you a puppy without any questions.

HEALTH. Sadly … We also see breeders who are out to make a profit and not caring about you or the puppy once they take your money. Irish Wolfhounds with chronic health problems are very, very expensive.
Look for: The bare minimum are tests for parents (heart, hips, elbows, eyes). Make sure your puppy has been tested by the breeder! for a fatal liver shunt condition! before you get a puppy.

A responsible breeder entrusts you with a puppy they have carefully bred and raised and will be there for your puppy for the dog’s life. The recommended placement age for Irish Wolfhound puppies is 10-12 weeks. No kidding!

LOCAL BREEDERS. There usually aren’t any. You will need to look carefully.

MEET HOUNDS. One great way to connect is to meet Irish Wolfhounds at shows. The 2026 Northern California Irish Wolfhound specialty show will have lots and lots of Wolfhounds Oct. 9 and 10 in Woodland, CA. Along with the shows they offer coursing, obedience, and more and welcome anyone interested. Quite a friendly group of people with great hounds if you’re up for a fun trip!
