☀️ Important Information About Dogs & Hot Temperatures ☀️
At dog daycare, your pup’s safety is always our top priority. As temperatures rise, it’s important to understand that dogs are much less efficient at cooling themselves than humans. They only sweat through their paw pads and rely primarily on panting to regulate their body temperature.
🐾 Why We Limit Outdoor Play During Extreme Heat
🔥 High Risk of Heatstroke
When temperatures climb above 85°F, dogs can overheat quickly. Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency that can lead to organ failure in a matter of minutes.
💨 Panting Isn’t Always Enough
Dogs cool themselves through panting, but hot and humid air makes this process much less effective, increasing the risk of overheating.
🐾 Hot Surfaces Can Burn Paw Pads
Asphalt, concrete, and other surfaces can become significantly hotter than the air temperature. Even a short walk on these surfaces can cause painful burns.
⚠️ Dogs Often Hide Their Discomfort
Many dogs won’t show obvious signs of pain or heat stress until they are already in serious danger. By the time symptoms become noticeable, immediate medical attention may be needed.
🐶 Some Dogs Are More Vulnerable
Short-nosed breeds such as Bulldogs, Pugs, Boxers, and Boston Terriers, as well as dogs with thick coats, seniors, puppies, and overweight dogs, are at a much higher risk of heat-related illness.
