Before Secretariat. Before Seabiscuit. Before legends had names that echoed… There was one. They called him “Big Red.” But make no mistake — he wasn’t just big. He was bigger than the sport itself. Man o’ War didn’t race his rivals. He erased them. From the moment he burst onto the track in 1919, the world changed. Horses weren’t just athletes anymore — they were gods in motion. And Man o’ War? He was their king. 🏇 21 starts. 20 victories. 🏇 So dominant, he often carried up to 138 pounds — and still galloped away untouched. 🏇 His lone loss? A fluke start in the Sanford Stakes. He came in second by a head — giving his opponent 15 pounds. That’s how you lose like a legend. But numbers don’t tell his story. Crowds didn’t just cheer him — they held their breath. When he moved, it was like watching a storm unravel across the turf. Not wild… but majestic. Controlled. Relentless. He didn’t run. He conquered. And when he retired in 1920, at the height of his powers, fans wept. Not just because the champion was leaving. But because they knew — they'd never see another like him. Years later, standing proud at Faraway Farm, he greeted visitors like royalty. Even in old age, his presence sent chills down the spine. He died in 1947 — and even his funeral was broadcast across the nation. Man o’ War wasn’t just the first great racehorse of the 20th century. He was the reason greatness had a name to live up to.

This girl turns 21 years old today.
She ran 20 races. She won 19 of them.
She won the:
• El Encino
• The Apple Blossom – twice
• The Milady – twice
• The Vanity – three times
• The Clement Hirsch – three times
• The Lady’s Secret – three times
• The Santa Margarita
• The Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic
• The Breeders’ Cup Classic
She was Horse of the Year.
She was American Champion Older Female Horse – three times.
She won the Secretariat Vox Populi Award.
She won the William H. May Award.
She was voted among the Top 10 Female Race Horses of All Time.
She is in the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame.
Her statue stands at Santa Anita.
On November 7, 2009 – in the Breeders’ Cup Classic - after an unexpectedly long delay at the starting gate, she broke poorly. She was fifteen lengths back. Down the backside, she’d only passed one horse. After jockey Mike Smith asked her to make her move on the final turn, she displayed one of the greatest stretch runs in the history of racing, circling & passing the entire field in the middle of the track & beating the driving Gio Ponti by a nose.
The track announcer, Trevor Denman, put it best: “THIS….IS….UN-BELIEV-ABLE!”
She danced for her fans before her races. She drank a pint of Guinness every day. She was approachable & eager to meet all her fans. She was a superstar.
She was - & still is – The Queen.
She is ZENYATTA.

The saddest thing I’ve ever seen…
Is a rider on a horse
that does not believe he/she is good enough to be there.

Do not compare yourself. There is only this moment, this horse. Your hands, seat, voice and leg, define the parameters of the entire world for this horse.

What anyone else is doing, or has ever done, does NOT matter.
Whomever it is that you look up to — or feel less than —
Is in turn, looking up to another rider, wishing to aspire to that level. So be content where you are… You are blessed!

YOU are your only competition… Just be better today than you were yesterday. Try hard for this horse you ride and try hard for yourself. Most of all, enjoy this time; Every moment. Every stride. Every cue that is answered with a response.

Cherish this partnership…
Know, that you are exactly where you are supposed to be…
