Honor That Dude wins by a mile in Louisiana

Honor That Dude was off to a slow start as a 2-year-old, but he’s making up for it at three in Louisiana. The Curlin’s Honor gelding could only muster up a second and a third in seven 2024 races, but this season, after a mammoth winning race at Evangeline Downs, he’s 3-1-0 in his last seven.

C. J. McMahon was aboard for Honor That Dude’s latest, which went at seven furlongs over the main track. The $10,000 OBS October yearling bred by Maverick Stables battled through the first quarter, took over by himself at the half, then sprinted away from the field and won by an eye-popping 12 3/4 lengths. His clocking of 1:24.01 was just two seconds off the track record.

The Louisiana-bred gelding paid $2.40 and earned a check of $7,800 for owner/trainer Justin Jeansonne, boosting his total to $46,550, with $37,250 coming this year.

Way up north at Parx Racing, the Curlin’s Honor 3-year-old filly J J’s Honor went wire-to-wire to break her maiden under Eliseo Ruiz in her ninth start, also at seven furlongs. A $37,000 OBS 2023 Winter Mixed purchase bred by Sharon J. and Thomas R. Equi, J J’s Honor won by five lengths in 1:26.73 and collected $11,400.

From today's Bloodhorse Daily: AMERICAN LENNILU THIRD
American participant Lennilu ran well in defeat, finishing third, beaten 1 3/4 lengths under Luis Saez. She raced within a few lengths of the pace and offered a bid in the center of the course. The gray and/or roan filly fell short of longshot Flowerhead in second. The Queen Mary was marred by the Richard Hannon-trained Harry's Girl pulling up with a fatal injury. The Patrick Biancone-trained Lennilu, a Florida-bred daughter of Leinster, lost for the first time. She scored two initial victories in the United States, the first at Keeneland in April and a second victory in
May in the Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Gulfstream Park for owners Amy and Caitlin Dunne, Brenda Miley, Jean Wilkinson, Hoffman Family Racing, Tranquility Lake Farms, and Maury and
Christopher Harrington.

Florida-bred Lennilu Third in Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot

BY BROCK SHERIDAN

Florida-bred Lennilu gave a good account of herself while representing the United States and the Sunshine State Thoroughbred industry with a solid third in the £150,000 (US$187,500) Queen Mary at Royal Ascot Wednesday.

Breaking from post 13 with jockey Luis Saez in the irons, Lennilu got off to a good start as Zelaina (GB) shot from post 15 to take a two-length lead in the first 100 yards. Zelaina continued to lead through the initial furlongs as Lennilu moved closer in second with Shine On Me (BG) trying to crowd the American filly from her right.

Closer to the finish, True Love (Ire) began making a run on the inside as Lennilu and Cardiff By The Sea (Ire) shook free from Shine On Me and passed Zelaina as Flowerhead (Ire) joined the contenders from the far outside.

True Love pulled away to clear lead nearing the wire to win by a length with Flowerhead second and Lennilu edging Cardiff By the Sea for third.

Ridden by Ryan Moore, True Love gave trainer Aiden O’Brien his first victory in the Queen Mary.
Trained by Patrick Biancone for Amy and Caitlin Dunne, Brenda Miley, Jean Wilkinson, Hoffman Family Racing, Tranquility Lake Farms, and Maury and Christopher Harrington, Lennilu lost for the first time in three starts.

She won a maiden special weight on debut at Keeneland on April 6 and the Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies at Gulfstream Park on May 10.

Lennilu is by Pleasant Acres Stallions leading first crop sire Leinster out of Lulu’s Pom Pom, by Pomeroy and now has earnings of $103,289. She was bred in Florida by Helen and Joseph Barbazon.

True Love responded generously to pressure to win the Queen Mary stakes making it Aidan O’Brien’s first ever win in the race. She was sent off 9-4 favourite a...
