Everyone meet the Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen!
Fun Facts about PBGV’s!
🐾 Their name literally describes what they look like!
“Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen” translates to “small, low, shaggy dog from Vendée (France)” — basically a scruffy little adventurer!
🐾 Big bark, little dog
Despite being small-to-medium size, these dogs have a surprisingly loud hound voice — helpful for hunters keeping track of them in thick brush.
🐾 They’re rare, but unforgettable
You don’t see PBGVs every day, which makes spotting one is extra special!
🐾 They love to “talk.”
PBGVs are known for their expressive barks, howls, and funny noises, especially when they have something to say.
🐾 A tidy PBGV should still look scruffy!
The goal is a clean, healthy coat while keeping that charming, rugged hound appearance the breed is known for.
🐾 That messy coat has a purpose
Their shaggy, rough coat was designed to protect them from brambles and rough terrain while hunting. It’s cute and practical!
🐾 Their shaggy eyebrows and beard are signature features
Those adorable scruffy brows and whiskers aren’t just for looks — they help protect the face when moving through brush.
🐾 Their coat is weather-resistant.
Their rough, shaggy coat helps protect them from rain, dirt, and rough terrain.
