TARLETON EXPANDS URBAN FARMING TO ALL CAMPUSES -- Tarleton State is expanding its successful partnership with Opal’s Farm to offer urban agriculture education across all campuses.

What began as a grassroots effort to improve access to fresh, healthy foods in one Fort Worth neighborhood has developed into an innovative education model that Tarleton State is now bringing to Stephenville, with course instruction also available online to make the program more accessible to students in Waco, Bryan and online.

Taste the C.U.R.E. (Community Urban Farming Resource Education) is a free community education program launching its second year in January 2026. This six-month initiative equips participants with the knowledge and skills to cultivate a sustainable food system through organic and regenerative farming.

Today, we proudly celebrate the 250th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps, honoring a legacy of courage, discipline, and service that began on November 10, 1775. From that moment forward, the Marines have stood as a symbol of strength and honor—defending freedom, leading with integrity, and embodying the motto “Semper Fidelis,” Always Faithful.

To our FVC members who are Marines - past and present - you continue that tradition of excellence. On behalf of the entire Farmer Veteran Coalition, thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your continued example of what it means to live with honor.

🌱🧄 Planting Garlic: A Simple Guide for a Bountiful Harvest! 🧄🌱
Hey, friends! As the fall season rolls in, it’s the perfect time to plant garlic for a delicious harvest next summer! Here’s a quick guide to get you started:
Choose Your Garlic: Opt for hardneck or softneck varieties based on your climate and taste preferences. Hardneck garlic tends to have a stronger flavor and is great for colder regions.
Prepare the Soil: Garlic loves well-drained, fertile soil. Mix in some compost to give it a nutrient boost!
Planting Time: Aim to plant your garlic cloves about 4-6 weeks before the ground freezes. This usually means late September to early November.
Spacing: Plant the cloves about 2 inches deep and 6 inches apart. Make sure the pointed end is facing up!
Watering: Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Garlic doesn’t like to sit in water!
Mulch: Add a layer of mulch to protect the cloves over winter and suppress weeds.
Harvesting: In late spring to early summer, when the lower leaves start to brown, it’s time to harvest!
Planting garlic is not only easy but also rewarding. Plus, homegrown garlic tastes so much better than store-bought! 🌿✨

🌱✨ Grow Microgreens in Your Garage! ✨🌱
Who knew your garage could be a mini garden? 🥬💚 Growing microgreens in your garage is a fantastic way to utilize space and enjoy fresh greens year-round! Here’s how to get started:
Set Up Your Space: Clear a small area in your garage with good ventilation. You can use shelves or tables to create a dedicated growing station.
Choose Containers: Use shallow trays, old plastic containers, or even repurposed seedling pots. Just ensure they have drainage holes!
Soil & Seeds: Fill your containers with a quality potting mix. Sprinkle your favorite microgreen seeds (like arugula, kale, or sunflower) evenly and cover lightly with soil.
Lighting: Since garages may not have enough natural light, consider using grow lights. Position them about 2-4 inches above the seedlings and keep them on for 12-16 hours a day.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. A spray bottle works great for gentle watering!
Harvest Time: In just 7-14 days, you’ll have a fresh crop of microgreens ready to enjoy in salads, sandwiches, or smoothies!
