I'm a dog owner turned CERTIFIED professional trainer. I have been in your shoes with a dog I had no clue what to do with her bad behavior. Had a call today from a great family to help their 7 month old puppy they adopted. They said he was biting people. This was a perfect example of why, as a professional certified trainer, I need to see the full family situation and don’t attempt to diagnose and treat sight unseen. When I walked in sure enough the puppy on the left jumped at me and bit my jeans. I assured the family it’s ok and let them act out so I can see what’s going on. Both dogs were barking and acting out but as time went on I was able to diagnose the real problem was the older dog. The older dog has severe seperation anxiety and the new rescue puppy was learning his bad bully-type habits. I was with thid family 1-1/2 hours and the older dog never stopped barking at me. He was l telling me off in dog language. I could tell the rescue puppy had some negative reactions to human hands so we didn’t do any training commands. The main issue is getting both on same level and lowering the anxiety. I’m thrilled the owners are committed to their dogs so I know it will all work out.
