The hospital opened May 12th, 2007, fulfilling a lifelong dream of Dr. Spencer. Years of careful planning became a reality with the support of two important people in her life - husband and partner, Todd Below, a retired veteran who was serving in Iraq during the first year of the hospital's conception and opening, and her father, Darvin Spencer, who provided the financial backing for the venture.
ABOUT DR. SPENCER:
Dr. Spencer earned her doctorate from Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996, graduating Cum Laude, with high honors. She practiced as an associate in two rural practices in east KY for several years, while rearing two young sons. She then focused her career goals on gaining more intensive experience, by attaining a highly sought after associates position in a hospital in Lexington, KY, where she practiced 5 years with a well-known veterinarian and AKC judge. A family tragedy in 2005, in which she lost her beloved mother, coupled with her husband's deployment to Iraq, led her to leave her position in Lexington to allow time for focus on her family and future plans. During this time she relocated her family to Morehead, KY, and began the business plans for the hospital. Dr. Spencer also held a position as an adjunct professor with Morehead State University's Vet Tech Program, teaching a surgery lab on Tuesday afternoons. Beshear to serve a 4-yr term as a KVMA representative for the Animal Control Advisory Board. She also served on Rowan County's Executive shelter board. STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY:
