We’re soaking up the last couple weeks of our 2026 trail riding season, and we’d LOVE to have you come ride with us! ❤️ Saddle up on one of our amazing horses and experience the beautiful Wyoming backcountry before the season comes to an end. 🏔️🐴

Horses will usually live around 25–30 years… sometimes longer if they’re well taken care of.

That’s a lot of years behind one animal, and a lot of miles under the saddle.

We’ve got a few that have been with us a long time—you get to know ‘em pretty well after that. Their quirks, their habits, the kind of day they’re havin’ before you even saddle ‘em up. Our oldest horse lived about 42 years old.

They’re not just here for a season… they’re part of the place.

Folks always ask how young you can start ridin’ a horse…

Most can be started around 2 or 3 years old, but that don’t mean they’re ready for the job right off the bat.

We put a lot into ours early—ground work first, then get on ‘em… and yeah, you’ll get thrown off here and there. That’s just part of it 😄

Some of ‘em will get packed into the high country to learn the ropes, then we’ll guide off ‘em for a year or two before they ever see the dude string.

If they make it there, it’s because we trust ‘em. Plain and simple.

That’s the kind of horse you want under ya out on these trails.

Paint horses go way back… all the way to those old Spanish horses brought over in the 1500s.

But around here, they’re more than just history—we’ve always had a soft spot for a good, strong Paint horse.

They’ve kind of become a staple for us. Good bone, good mind, and built to handle this country. The kind you can count on day in and day out.

We’ve got a few in our string that have earned their keep over the years—and we wouldn’t trade ‘em for anything. We call them "The A Team".

There’s over 300 different breeds of horses out there…

And truth is—it does matter what kind you’ve got for this country.

A lot of ours are homegrown, a little draftier, with those good feathered feet… built to handle the rocks, the creeks, and everything these trails throw at ‘em.

That kind of horse makes all the difference out here—steady, sure-footed, and made for the mountains.

We call ‘em our mountain ponies, and they’ll take good care of ya 🤠

🎉 Happy Birthday to Carl "Dog"! 🎉

Today we're celebrating a true staple of our outfit—Carl "Dog"!

Dog has been with us since 2014, and over the years he's become someone we simply can't imagine this place without. Whether he's guiding guests through the beautiful trails of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, fixing whatever decides to break that day, or lending a hand wherever it's needed, he's always there with a wealth of knowledge.

If you've ridden with Dog, you know exactly why so many guests remember him long after their vacation. His stories, experience, and genuine love for the mountains make every ride one to remember.

Thank you for your years of hard work, loyalty, and friendship. We hope you have an amazing birthday and another great season ahead!

Funny enough... you're not the first person to say that! 😉 We've actually had a production company approach us about creating a reality TV series featuring life at Swift Creek Outfitters. Between the horses, the wranglers, the wildlife, and everything that happens behind the scenes, there's certainly never a dull moment! 🤠

We're hopeful you'll get to see more of that story in the future. Until then, come experience it for yourself!

Horses don’t just eat a couple meals a day like we do… they’ll eat pretty much all day long if they can.

Most of ours go through 15–25 pounds of hay a day, just to keep ‘em happy and doin’ their job out here.

When you’ve got a whole string to feed, you start to realize real quick how much these horses take to keep goin’ 😄

It’s a lot of work behind the scenes, but that’s what keeps ‘em strong and ready for the trail.
