🚨 I made a mistake. 🚨

The kids and I went to Rural King (which I had never even heard of before moving here). We stumbled across a whole container full of turkey poults.

“That would be fun,” …..I thought.

So I went home, discussed it with Tom, and he agreed. The kids got HELLA excited about getting turkeys. We headed back to Rural King…

……and they were completely sold out. 🫠

“No idea when we’ll get more.”

Called TSC. Same story.

Mother trucker!!!!!!!

Cue the disappointed kid tears and repeated questions of, “But when ARE we getting our turkeys?!?!?!”

If we were back in Iredell or Rowan County, this wouldn’t be a problem because there seem to be turkeys everyyywhere. 🧐But here near Rocky Mount? I’m striking out.

So, Mooresville Meadows family, I need your help! Does anyone know someone near Rocky Mount, NC, who has turkey poults available? Heritage breeds would be amazing, but at this point, my sanity and eardrums are open to suggestions. 😂

Please drop your recommendations below, tag your turkey people, or share this post. Help me avoid having to explain to my children for the 87th time why we still don’t have turkeys. 🦃😭

Guys, this new property has been such an incredible blessing for our family, the kids, and all of the animals…..❤️

I’m not quiteeeee ready to come back to social media full time yet, but I did want to pop in with a quick need. Our gerbil cage has finally given up on us, and honestly, she was due for an upgrade anyway. I’ll be in Mooresville today through Friday if anyone has a gerbil cage they’d be willing to donate…..

We could also use rabbit food, hay, and treats. We’ll be rescuing another domestic baby bunny while we’re in town, and we’re already starting to run low on supplies. As always, dry cat food is a huge help too. We’re also taking in another Bengal cat while we’re in Mooresville 😅🤪

Once life slows down a little and we get settled, I can’t wait to show you all this place. It is everything we hoped it would be and more. It has been so much better for ALL of us 🥹🙏

Leo is absolutely living his best life here. He covered 3.5 miles in a single day exploring, and the neighborhood absolutely lovessss him. Thank you to Mrs. Gaylene Bevis for our Tractive Cat Minis!!! We were lucky enough to move in beside two major animal lovers on both sides, and it’s been such a breath of fresh air seeing how welcomed and loved our animals are here.

Thank you all for continuing to support Mooresville Meadows through every season of life. We are excited for what’s ahead!!!🐹🐰🐇🐅🐈🐈‍⬛🐩🐕‍🦺🐶🦴

My count may be a little off, but on Tuesday we’re moving with: two Great Pyrenees (aka small polar bears), two small dogs, three elderly cats, two young cats, one younger Bengal cat, a reptile, a gerbil, an angora silk rabbit, and two kids. We come back the next day for everyone else being boarded 😅

All packed into one 3.5 hour drive.

Pray for us. Pray for the vehicles. Pray for my sanity. And most importantly, pray nobody decides to p**p, scream, throw up, escape, or fight halfway down the interstate 🤪

Unpopular opinion:

Animal shelters and rescues are drowning because too many people wait until the absolute last second to care about the consequences of owning a pet.

“Please help. My landlord said we’ll be evicted tomorrow if you don’t take my cat.”

In the kindest way possible… you knew pets weren’t allowed when you brought that cat home. That wasn’t a surprise sprung on you overnight. And now suddenly it’s an “emergency” for everyone else to solve.

Maybe stop focusing so hard on how this affects YOU for five minutes and think about the cat. The cat that now has to lose its home, routine, family, and security because humans made impulsive choices.

Rescues are full. Shelters are full. Foster homes are full. We hear versions of this story constantly and most of the time, it was preventable. I kid you not, this feels like the gajillionth text this week to my PERSONAL CELL with identical scripts.

An emergency on your part does not magically create space, funding, fosters, vet care, or kennels on ours.

We are not saying this to be cruel. We are saying it because people need to start understanding that adopting an animal is a longgggggg term responsibility, not a temporary emotional decision.
