🐦🔥 Phoenix 🐦🔥
Just 7 days ago, I shared an emergency situation involving a mare whose halter had become embedded in her face so severely that she was struggling to eat.
What many people don’t know is that after seeing the condition she was in, the BLM repossessed her due to neglect and reached out to ask if I would be willing to take over ownership.
My first answer was no.
I already have plenty of personal projects, and I knew taking on another horse would mean a significant commitment of time, resources, and energy. The plan was for the BLM to pick her up and transport her back to Nebraska.
But over the next few days, something changed.
Phoenix started to let her guard down. She became curious. She started watching me instead of avoiding me. Little by little, she began showing me the sweet soul hiding underneath all the fear and uncertainty.
The more I got to know her, the harder it became to imagine her loading onto a trailer and disappearing back into holding. I couldn’t stop thinking about her future—wondering when she might get another chance, whether someone would see what I was starting to see, and whether she would end up in the kind of home she deserved.
So I called the BLM back and told them I’d take her.
And honestly, I haven’t regretted it for a second.
Today, Phoenix is doing great. She’s gaining weight, healing well, and discovering that humans aren’t so bad after all. Her favorite thing in the world right now? Neck scratches. The moment you find the right spot, she melts. 💕
It’s amazing what can happen in just one week when a horse is given proper care, patience, and a chance.
Phoenix’s story is far from over, but for the first time in a long time, her future looks bright.
Welcome home, Phoenix. ❤️
