Have you ever had a puppy suddenly start shedding like crazy and wondered what was going on? All puppies at some point shed out that soft puppy coat and grow in the adult coat. This means dog fur everywhere, and sometimes your puppy's hair seems to mat up almost overnight. This usually happens somewhere around 9 months, but it could be anywhere between 6-12 months.

When you notice extra shedding from your puppy, make sure you brush and comb several times per week. A good bath will help too, as will taking your pup to the groomer, especially if you have a long-haired dog. Those curly poodle/doodle coats can mat up pretty quickly during coat change, so if you don't keep on top of it, shaving and starting over may be required.

Murphy is a 11 month golden puppy who came in recently in the middle of his coat change. This is most of the fur that I got out, with a dremel for size. The wet fur on the left is probably at least 3-4 times as much as the dry fur. He had been in about 7 weeks before when he was just starting to go through his coat change.
