Holy moly it’s been a while since I’ve checked in. We have had a lot of things happening. Life sure does have a way of doing its thing.
Theo is recovering from what we thought was an abscess? It never blew after endless soaks, packing- ichtamol, magic cushion, and sugardine mixture on a rotation. He’s feeling much better and we are so happy for that. Now to get back in the saddle. That’s always the ending of a sentence now- “To get back in the saddle.”
Aero is recovering from yet another scratched eye. I think this is #9? He is a mess always and I think we just may wear a fly mask 365, 24/7 moving forward. Thank goodness we have meds on supply for these injuries. He’s feeling better and his eye is looking much better too. There’s a product called an “Equivisor”; it is spectacular! We are on our second one at this point. A mix of gorilla tape and duct tape over the hurt eye side and he can have normal turnout. Perfect.
Everyone else is great. We are adjusting to now wearing fly masks for turnout, we never needed them in Texas. Some are great about keeping their masks on with no halter, others not so much. Buttons, Sarg, and Aero have a MacGyver type set up between the mask and halter. They can’t get them off at this point. That’s a win! 🙌🏼😎🐴
On a sad note, I lost my father on May 18th. He had a very short battle with a very aggressive form of Leukemia. We are readjusting to a new normal without him. His service will be on Saturday, June 13th. That will be a difficult day. As my dad always said, “Keep moving forward. You can cry but keep moving forward while crying.” There are less days of crying moving forward and just moving forward as time passes, that’s a good thing. My life changed that day. Everything changed that day. But we keep moving forward.
We are still on the hunt for land or a home on acreage. 10 acres, AG zoning, house or no house, raw or some out buildings, not a cliff, not entirely treed, in our current school district doesn’t seem like a big ask. Man o man it is. We continue to board and scour the streets for new listings or pocket listings.
I hope to get back to teaching, training, and riding soon. In light of current life events, it once again has taken a back seat. I have now realized how lucky I am to have the horses as pets. We are always building our relationships. We have added a different chapter now to our relationships. All on the ground for the past year. They are getting loved on and being horses- minimal groundwork training. Theos ground manners and knowledge of his body in space (if you know Theo it will make sense. Think very long legs, baby brain) are drastically improving. I love my horses and they love me, even when it’s not feeding time or treat time. 😂🫶🏼🐴
Remember a baby step forward is still a step in the right direction.
Onward and upward y’all! Tally ho!
