Dear families,ďż˝
After 36 hours of veterinary support and medical care, we lost our sweet Ruthie yesterday. We believe she colicked late Sunday night, and our vet team responded quickly and began treatment right away early Monday morning. We did not leave her side for those 36 hours and did absolutely everything we could to save her. She fought so hard, in true Ruthie fashion.
Yesterday morning, with the guidance of our medical team, we had to make the right but very devastating decision to lay her to rest. Her loss was sudden and unexpected, and our hearts are aching deeply.
Ruthie was incredibly talented and so kind. She was a rare pony. She cared for our littlest riders, and helped our advanced kiddos continue to grow. Everyone loved her. She jumped, barrel raced, pole bent, carried riders in both English and western disciplines, participated in therapeutic riding lessons, and ba****ck â she truly did it all. She was so many ridersâ favorite; she was their first ride, first trot, first canter, and first jump. She was steady, reliable, and endlessly patient, always taking such good care of her riders. In the barn she was our unicorn, and as my 3-year-old said, âMommy, now she really is a unicorn with her pretty wings.â
We lost not only a beautiful member of our herd, but a cherished family member, and we are devastated. Ruthie is currently at Texas A&M for a necropsy so we can learn more about her loss.
This loss weighs heavily on us. If youâre able, we would love for families to share favorite photos or videos of Ruthie as we remember and honor her beautiful life. Thank you for your love, prayers, and kindness as we navigate this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you to the entire medical team, firefighters, tractor operators, and neighbors who gave incredible efforts to help us save our girl.
