🐾Animal Control Appreciation Week 🐾

This week, we recognize the men and women who serve our community on the front lines of animal welfare, often without recognition, but never without impact.

In 2025 alone, our Animal Control Officers:

• Answered 3,582 calls for service
• Conducted 472 welfare and cruelty investigations
• Issued 380 warnings and citations
• Picked up or assisted with 1,102 animals in need
• Reunited 133 pets with their families in the field
• And made contact with over 9,000 animals and people in our community

Let that sink in.

These aren’t just numbers. These are lives changed.

Every call answered could be a neglected animal getting relief.
Every investigation could be the moment something finally changes.
Every citation is accountability.
Every return to owner is a family made whole again.

What makes us especially proud is their commitment to humane investigations. This team handles a significant volume of cases year-round and works closely alongside local law enforcement to ensure both animals and people are protected.

Their job is not easy. It is not always seen. And it is very often thankless.

But their impact on the City of Montgomery is undeniable.

To our officers:

Thank you for showing up on the hardest days.

Thank you for standing in the gap.

Thank you for being the voice for those who don’t have one.

The discovery of nearly 200 animals living in poor condition in Alabaster has led to the issue of warrants for two suspects and an influx of animals being brought to the Shelby Humane Society.

WINTER IS COMING! Dangerous temperatures (for humans, but especially our four-legged friends) are headed our way. BE RESPONSIBLE. Bring your pets inside, if you can. If it is absolutely not possible, you must provide proper housing and extra resources to keep your pets warm. Leaving dogs outside during freezing weather, without proper shelter, warmth, and water IS ILLEGAL!
As some of you may have heard, word has been spreading on the streets about our investigators being busy. Over the last 2 years, our investigators have seen a drastic increase of cases of neglect and abuse. This won't do! Our investigators will do everything in their power to help you be the best pet owners that you can be. BUT, when you aren't willing to put the effort in, your animals suffer, and that becomes a problem.
The Montgomery Humane Officer Division, partnering with the Montgomery Humane Society, will do everything we can to help you keep Montgomery's furry friends warm and safe during the freezing temps. We will be conducting an increased number of welfare checks in the coming days. If we can help, we will do our best to help supply resources to individuals, while our supplies last. The catch is that you follow up on your end. With the resources that will be provided, there won't be any excuses for your animals to not make it through the cold weather.
LET US BE VERY CLEAR. If you have an animal that is kept outside and you do not heed the warnings, or take advantage of the resources that are being made available to anyone residing in Montgomery County, you WILL be prosecuted to the FULLEST extent of the law (Animal Cruelty IS A FELONY!).
If you see something, say something. If you see an animal being kept outside without proper shelter/resources and can safely talk to the owner, please offer assistance by informing them of the resources being provided.
