Good morning from the Baby Boo kitties!

Thanks to our 10 new kittens, our litter supply is running very low. With 10 kittens and over a dozen adults, we go through a LOT of litter very quickly. Even with the main lounge having two automatic boxes, we are FLYING through our litter supply. While we are trying to save up for a new building, it’s more important than ever that we get the supplies we need so we can focus our finances on other expenses.

Let’s just say Cinnamon wasn’t too thrilled at our attempts to help him. While giving (almost) all the kittens in the Baby Boo room a capstar and a flea bath yesterday, we took some extra precautions with Cinnamon and Nutmeg since they’re still a bit spicy. I was using a towel swaddle wrap while Karen administered the pill. He was refusing to swallow the pill and putting up so much of a fight that he started to slip out of the swaddle. In an attempt to prevent him from falling out of the towel and all the way to the floor (where he’d inevitably run off and hide), I quickly moved my arm under him to catch him and, in doing so, put it in prime scratching range. I did end up catching him and setting him back down in his kennel safely. We eventually got him to swallow the capstar. We win this round Cinnamon but you definitely gave us a good fight!
Now, I want to make it perfectly crystal clear that this was entirely MY FAULT, Cinnamon did absolutely nothing wrong here. I know Cinnamon has a tendency to bite and I also know that it’s easier to get a firm restraint hold on a cat without a towel but I still let my anxiety get the better of me since I had someone helping me and Cinnamon has bitten both of us before. Because of this, I opted to use a towel to try to prevent him from having access to both of his defenses, claws and teeth while we are actively touching the one that he’s used on us before. I didn’t have as steady of a hold on him as I should have because I chose to use the towel and I got scratched as a result of that choice. Cinnamon is not yet socialized and he was just scared. We are scary, tall creatures that just picked him up and started trying to feed him a weird tasting pill, of course he’s going to be scared, so he acted accordingly. At the end of the day, he got medicated and everyone is okay. I’ve been scratched before, I’ll live 😂
This does award Cinnamon with the “Most Infamous Criminal” title in the rescue. He’s bitten both myself and a board member, had a public health report made about him because of said bites, and now he’s given me the largest cat scratch I’ve had yet. He’s still young so who knows what crimes he’s yet to commit…

Megaphone was an absolute model for her bath. She showed all the other cats how it’s not really that scary and it’s fun to get “pets” after (towel drying, but don’t tell her it’s not just petting). Some of the other cats (ahem, Cinnamon) had some stronger opinions about the bath…
Everyone in the Baby Boo room got another round of Capstar today. We also included a flea bath for everyone except Cinnamon and Nutmeg (they were hard enough to just get a capstar in them) but I’m hoping this is the end of the flea issues in that room. I have scrubbed every single inch of their room from the floors to the walls and everything in between and all their bedding is, yet again, being changed out and the old bedding will be bleach washed. Fleas are so frickin annoying. I fell asleep at about 5am today, woke up at 8am and couldn’t get back to sleep and it’s supposed to be my day off but the fleas had other plans. I noticed flea dirt on Paprika yesterday as I was sitting in there cuddling with all of them so it had to be treated. Fleas can get out of hand very quickly if not treated promptly so we are doing our very best to stay on top of it as much as possible. That does mean a LOT of deep cleaning in our near future though, even more than our usual amount of cleaning. Tomorrow we’ll be deworming everyone again just in case any of them got worms from the fleas. Megaphone is also getting fixed and some of her vaccines tomorrow so she’s going to have a very full day along with us people. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go crash and hopefully catch up on some much needed sleep.

It’s supply restock day! We’ve been told by a few people that they ordered us some wet food today for Wishlist Wednesday so that definitely helps cut down costs, but we still need a lot of litter and other supplies to keep our kitties happy and healthy! I’ll be going to Petco soon to get a restock of our essentials and right now it’s looking like the rough cost estimate for all supplies will be between $300-400. If you can donate to help cover costs, we are trying our best to cover all regular expenses this month so we can start really kicking up the building fundraising campaign for our new property.
