Have you ever been told to not allow a hot, sweaty horse to drink cold water because it could lead to colic, founder or tie up?

This notion is actually a myth, and a dangerous one too, because it could lead to dehydration and very serious (and real) consequences. A sweaty, hardworking horse needs to be rehydrated without delay (i.e. don’t wait for the horse to cool down first).

The key, however, is to know how much water to allow at one time — because of the equine stomach’s relatively small capacity, offer small amounts of water every 20 minutes until the horse drinks his fill rather than letting the animal drink it all at once.

Remember that water is the most vital nutrient for a horse. A horse’s daily water requirements are influenced by many factors, but the average idle 1,100-pound horse in a cool environment will drink 6 to 10 gallons of water per day. That amount may easily double or triple in a hot environment! Therefore, it goes without saying that providing cool, clean water to your horses at all times is of paramount importance.

Leah is now scheduling horseback riding lessons for June 2025. At this time, we are only scheduling clients who prepay monthly or have a "membership". We currently have a waitlist and want to accommodate as many clients as possible.

A membership just means it's clients who want to take lessons on a weekly or every other week schedule prepay at the beginning of the month. It enables the clients to pick their desired time and day and reserve it. To have a membership, it is required that the client prepays for their time slots at the beginning of the month and there are no additional fees.

Statements will be sent out through QuickBooks prior to the start of the month and payment is required by the first of the Month. All lessons paid for at the beginning of the month must be used by the end of the month. If membership isn’t paid by the first of the month, then riders will be moved to our waitlist.

If you have any questions or concerns, just get ahold of Leah by calling or texting her at 406-672-7511.

Our Story

McCord Training was started in 2013 by Leah McCord Urbanski. Leah was certified in 2012 as a therapeutic riding instructor and had worked/interned at a couple therapeutic riding centers before starting her own program. Her vision and goal when starting up her own program was to have a program that included everyone in participating in equine activities. She understands the joy and healing that these large animals can bring to people. She started at a borrowed property with a couple good horses and a handful of clients.

Fast forward to today after a lot of hard work and dedication, Leah now has her own property in which the program operates out of, staff, and 12 lesson horses. We are able to provide therapeutic riding lessons to a large variety of riders in addition to facilitating other programs.
