🐻❤️ The Evolution of Bear: From Bear Bear to Care Bear!

Three photos. Three VERY different hairstyles. One incredibly special little boy!

When Bear, our Maltese/Shih Tzu mix, first arrived at Ruff Draft, his entire body was severely matted all the way down to his skin. There was simply no saving that coat.

✂️ Phase 1: The Before
A sweet little dog hiding underneath a whole lot of matted fur.

✂️ Phase 2: The Awkward Stage
During his neuter, Bear received an almost full-body shave, but they left the hair on his head and face. Let’s just say it was a LOOK. 😂

✂️ Phase 3: The Care Bear Era
Bear has officially been professionally groomed! His coat is short, clean, and most importantly, he’s SO much more comfortable!

But the best part has been getting to know the personality underneath all that fur! ❤️

🐾 Here’s what we’ve learned about Bear:

❤️ He LOVES people and children!

❤️ He’s a professional cuddler and would happily spend all day in someone’s lap.

❤️ He LOVES car rides, especially when he can snuggle up with his favorite human.

❤️ He’s a decent eater, although occasionally a little picky.

❤️ Other dogs? Well… Bear prefers people, and that’s okay!

Bear absolutely adored Masha, a calm little dog around his age. However, puppies and larger dogs make him nervous. He doesn’t lunge or bite, but he WILL growl to let them know he’s uncomfortable.

And honestly? We respect a little guy who knows how to communicate his boundaries!

We think Bear would be happiest as someone’s one and only, although another calm, small dog could potentially be a good match!

Underneath all those questionable hairstyles is the sweetest little companion who just wants someone to love.

He’s gone from Bear → Bear Bear → Care Bear, and now there’s only one transformation left…

🏈🐾 MARNY IS BACK ON THE DRAFT BOARD! ❤️

Sometimes finding forever takes a few extra plays, and that’s okay!

Marny, one of our TWO longest residents (4/15/26), recently had a trial adoption with an AMAZING family. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the right fit.

But we don’t see this as a failure. We see it as one step closer to finding Marny’s forever family AND helping this wonderful family find a draft pick better suited for their team. ❤️

We also learned a few things about our girl!

🐾 Little kids can be overwhelming. Marny was understandably nervous adjusting to a new home, and the constant noise and movement of small children seemed to add to her stress. There were NO incidents, but we weren’t willing to take chances or keep her in an environment where she wasn’t comfortable. Moving forward, we’re looking for a home with older kids who understand patience, slow movements, and giving her space.

🐾 Coming inside can be scary. Marny sometimes struggles with coming back indoors, but does much better following another dog’s lead!

❤️ A HUGE thank you to this family! They reached out the moment they had concerns and put Marny’s well-being first. THAT is what responsible adoption looks like, and we couldn’t be more grateful!

Marny has waited over SIX MONTHS for her turn. She doesn’t need perfection. She needs patience, understanding, and someone willing to give her time.

We’re not looking for perfect. We’re looking for FOREVER. ❤️

🎂🐾 ONE YEAR OLD. ONE BIRTHDAY WISH. ONE FOREVER HOME. 🏡❤️

Most puppies spend their first year experiencing all kinds of firsts. Their first family, their first Christmas, their first adventures, and their first birthday surrounded by the people who love them.

But for this sweet girl, life has looked a little different. 💔

She just celebrated her FIRST birthday, and she has spent her ENTIRE life in rescue.

365 days of waiting. 365 days of watching other dogs find their forever families. 365 days without a home to call her own.

And if she could blow out a birthday candle and make just one wish, we know exactly what it would be. 🥹

A FAMILY OF HER VERY OWN. ❤️

This beautiful Husky mix is officially ONE year old and fully grown! No guessing how big she’ll get, no waiting to see what she’ll look like. She’s already the beautiful girl she’s meant to be.

She doesn’t need a big birthday party, a pile of presents, or a fancy cake.

She just needs someone to choose HER. 🐾

The rest of our crew is completely EXHAUSTED after spending such a gorgeous day outside, soaking up the fresh air, sunshine, attention, and endless puppy cuddles! ☀️🐶

BUT WAIT… THE CELEBRATION ISN’T OVER! 🎉

🏈 Marny and Michael both have meet and greets scheduled over the next two days!

And we’re crossing every finger, toe, and paw that we’ll have even MORE forever families to celebrate very soon!

We had adopters travel OVER TWO HOURS just to meet our dogs today. TWO HOURS! 🥹❤️

We genuinely cannot put into words how much that means to us.

To every adopter, foster, volunteer, supporter, and person who stopped by to say hello, share our posts, or give one of our pups a little extra love… THANK YOU.

Days like today remind us exactly why we do what we do. Every adoption opens a spot for another dog who desperately needs us, and every new family is another life changed forever.

This 4-year-old sweetheart made his way all the way from our rescue friends in Texas, and today he’s officially making his debut appearance with the rest of the Ruff Draft crew!

Archer is ready to meet some new friends, soak up some love, and hopefully catch the eye of his future forever family! ❤️
