We’re celebrating 1 YEAR of Kathy!!

Kathy started as a good customer in our Freshwater Department and Cody tells me, “we’ve GOT to get her to work here!!”
So I met Kathy and chatted with her and essentially offered her a job out there on the sales floor, but she had other obligations so it was a few months before she finally came back for an interview.
She may come across as quiet, but this quietly intelligent fireball knows what she’s talking about when it comes to keeping fish!!!
Equally strong in freshwater and saltwater, we’re so LUCKY to have her on the Krewe!!!

If you’ve got a FLUVAL or AQUACLEAR filter on your aquarium, TODAY IS YOUR DAY! All the replacement filter media is 50% off – so STOCK UP!
There are 3 BASIC TYPES of water filtration:
MECHANICAL: Removes solid debris from your aquarium and helps keep your water clean and clear. This is where the FOAM blocks come in. (Be sure to rinse your foam inserts in aquarium/ dechlorinated water once a month and REPLACE your FOAM twice a year.)

CHEMICAL: Traps gases and other dissolved impurities in a chemical media, such as carbon to give you crystal clear, odorless water. Change your carbon MONTHLY; bacteria will colonize it, debris will clog it, and as it gets saturated with impurities, there is the risk that some of the impurities will leach BACK into the water.
🐟
BIOLOGICAL: Fish p**p. BENEFICIAL BACTERIA converts the waste into a form OTHER bacteria can use, which then removes it from the water. The byproducts of fish waste can be VERY toxic, so healthy beneficial bacteria is crucial. Bio-media gets clogged, so you need to PARTIALLY change this filter media every 3-6 MONTHS. (We say PARTIAL so you’re not throwing away your entire beneficial bacteria colony – just change out 1/3 to 1/2 of the biological filtration media, so you have the rest of it available to seed the fresh media.)

Beneficial bacteria also like the oxygen they get from a strong water flow, which is why you want to keep your MECHANICAL and CHEMICAL filter media on a regular replacement schedule.

When you regularly clean, maintain, and replace your filter media, your filter will function MUCH BETTER and your fish will be MUCH HEALTHIER.
