🧬 An Early Fun Fact Friday: Your “White” Sphynx Might Be in Disguise!

Did you know that most white cats aren’t really white at all? 🤍

That snowy skin you see on a “white” Sphynx is usually the result of a masking gene (called the dominant white gene) that hides their true color underneath! 🎭

That means your porcelain beauty could secretly be a black, blue, or even tortoiseshell Sphynx wearing nature’s best disguise. 🩶

Because Sphynx cats don’t have fur to show pigment, the effect is even more fascinating — sometimes you’ll spot faint tones or ghost markings that hint at the hidden color below.

So next time you see a “white” Sphynx… just remember — she might be keeping a colorful little secret. 😉✨

✨🐾Many have asked how they can support Miracle and her journey. An awesome lady- Stefanie P. has organized a GoFundMe Page for baby Miracle in hopes we can raise enough funds to get her to a vet med surgeon! She is still too young to undergo the procedure, but we are starting to work towards our goal to get her the help she needs! With your help, together we can save baby Miracle!!❤️‍🩹🙏

If Miracle passes before the surgery, we will take all proceedings and donate them to the Orphan Kitty Club, an organization that helps kittens just like Miracle! Anything will help even if small! If you can’t donate, please share share share! Her life depends on it! Thank you to all because yall have been absolutely amazing!🥹❤️

✨🐾Mercedes is being renamed to “Miracle,” a more fitting name for her. 25 days with Miracle and counting! 💪❤️‍🩹

I just wanted to say that the community’s support for Miracle’s journey has been overwhelmingly heartwarming!! We have had people from all over the US reaching out with advice, support, encouragement, and even asking how they can help. 🥹 Y’all are my rock and give me the encouragement to keep going for baby Miracle!

Shout out to Melissa T. for helping us find a protocol for Miracle. We have purchased all the necessary items needed to continue tube feeding her safely and appropriately. I am awaiting the materials to craft the hand made bite guard as her teeth start to come through.

Shout out to Stefanie P. who has researched Dental Surgeon Specialists and found one in TN and even offered to assist in transport. She has volunteered to start the “Miracle Movement” GoFundMe page in hopes to raise enough funds to perform the surgery!

Shout out to Tori B. who volunteered to take matters into her own hands calling multiple vets for advice and pricing estimates!

Through all the love and support, I need to be very transparent. I do not know what the future holds for baby Miracle. I do not know if i can save her. I have only found 2 documented cases of kittens that have survived to reach surgery age. If she can make it to 8 weeks old- she may be a candidate for a esophagostomy tube. Until then, Miracle is not able to eat on her own and will need to be tube fed around the clock with 24/7 care. Which I am dedicated to providing for her. Continued prayers and love are needed as we tackle the challenges that come one day at a time.

25 days with baby Miracle. Today we are just shooting for 26! One day at a time!❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹🙏🙏

Thank you to all! Y’all are AMAZING!🥰

I will continue to document and share her journey as we go.❤️🐾

✨🐾I have been tube feeding baby Mercedes since the day she was born. Assuming, since she was smaller in size -that her brothers pushed her aside from the nip. Mercedes continued to struggle nursing. I’ve never seen her nurse on her own. I attempted to wean her off of tube feeding and start the bottle which she was unable to grasp or suck. I attempted to get her to lap from a plate. Every attempt I tried to encourage her to eat on her own failed and ended in her aspirating. At over 3 weeks old, I then knew that something was wrong. 🥺

Upon further inspection, I started to look inside her mouth for cleft lip or palate. It was then that I discovered that baby Mercedes was suffering from a cleft pallate. This is a congenial birth defect causing the roof of the mouth not to fuse properly during fetal development. It is an absolute miracle that I have been able to stabilize Mercedes with a condition with such a poor prognosis. Devastated by the discovery and the knowledge to know that life for Mercedes may not be manageable, I had to face the hard facts that euthanization might be the best choice for her. I called my vet. Put her in this box. She looked right at me with those beady eyes.👀 And in that moment I knew we could not give up on Mercedes!

She has made it an amazing 3 weeks and 3 days. She’s holding her head up, walking, running, and playing. Maybe she has a chance… Working along side another breeder friend, together we are tackling the challenges to give this sweet girl a 2nd chance!!! It’s going to be a long road for Mercedes if she continues to pull through. Send all the love and prayers for this little warrior! If we can get her old enough, she will need surgery to reconstruct the roof of her mouth!🙏🙏🙏❤️

LETS GO MERCEDES! YOU MADE IT THUS FAR!🙌

✨🐾Prepping for some of the crew to make the 4.5 hour drive to Birmingham for our routine HCM scans at Animal Cardiology of Alabama. Send prayers for healthy hearts! ❤️🙏

💙 Why HCM Scans Matter for Responsible Sphynx Breeders 💙

At Think Sphynx Cattery, health isn’t optional — it’s the foundation of every life we bring into the world. One of the most important ways we protect our cats and kittens is through routine HCM scans (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy).

🩵 What is HCM?
HCM is a heart condition that can affect cats — especially breeds like the Sphynx. It causes thickening of the heart muscle, which can lead to serious complications if undetected.

💛 Why Scanning Matters
Early detection through veterinary echocardiograms allows breeders to make ethical breeding decisions, removing affected cats from programs and helping ensure healthier bloodlines. It’s not just about today’s kittens — it’s about protecting future generations.

Healthy hearts = Happy homes. 💙

🐾✨ Sphynx Fun Fact Friday ✨🐾

Did you know? 👀
❌ It’s a myth that Sphynx cats can’t regulate their body temperature!

These amazing hairless companions are fully capable of keeping themselves comfortable — they just lose heat faster because they don’t have a fur coat. 💛

That means they might enjoy a cozy sweater or blanket in cooler weather, but they don’t NEED clothes every day! 👚🐱 It is fun and adorable but not a necessity.

Here’s the truth from Think Sphynx Cattery LLC ⤵️
✅ Sphynx cats can regulate their temperature naturally just like any other cat.
🌡️ Sphynx cats’ body temperatures are 4 degrees warmer than other cats to help regulate them.
🥩They eat a lot!- Have a much higher metabolism which helps them maintain warmth.
🧣 Dress them daily only if your home is cool (under ~70°F) or drafty.
☀️ Overdressing can cause overheating or skin irritation — balance is key!

💛 Our tip: Give your Sphynx access to warm blankets, soft beds, and sunny window spots — they’ll let you know when they need an extra layer.

👑 Because at Think Sphynx, we don’t just breed beauty — we nurture knowledge.
