Today’s the day America sets aside to remember the fallen. But for those of us who were there, who lost a brother or sister-in-arms in combat, Memorial Day isn’t a date on the calendar. It’s every day.
It’s the weight you carry when you wonder why you made it home… but he didn’t.
And as heavy as that is, it isn’t s**t compared to what their families live with. They’re the ones who wake up every morning to an empty seat at the table. A folded flag where their son or daughter, husband or wife should be.
So today, and every day, raise a glass. Tell their stories. Keep their names alive. Because freedom isn’t free, and we damn sure better never forget the ones who paid for it.
Today, and every day, I want to remember and honor my brother, *Specialist Christopher M. Taylor aka BIG T.
Killed in Action: 16Feb2004 Baghdad, Iraq al-Dora district. He was 25.
