🐾 Why My Dogs Don’t Go to Dog Parks, Daycares, or Most Boarding Facilities 🐾
As a veterinary professional with over 14 years in the field, I’ve seen a lot that the average pet owner never sees.
This isn’t meant to bash dog parks, doggy daycares, or boarding facilities. There are some wonderful ones out there with caring staff and excellent protocols. However, working in veterinary medicine has made me very aware of the risks that can come with putting large groups of dogs together.
I’ve seen dog fights, puncture wounds, torn ears, eye injuries, broken bones, contagious respiratory illnesses, parasites, stress-related illnesses, and dogs that developed fear or reactivity after a single bad experience.
The reality is that even the best facility cannot control every dog’s behavior 100% of the time. Sometimes it only takes a few seconds for something to happen.
That’s why I personally choose controlled environments for my own pets. I prefer one-on-one care, playdates with dogs I know and trust, and pet sitting in the comfort of a pet’s own home whenever possible.
Every pet owner should make the choice that works best for their family, but I think it’s important to understand both the benefits and the risks before making that decision.
At the end of the day, my goal is the same as yours: keeping our pets safe, healthy, and happy. ❤️🐾
