🐶 Crate Training: What Goes Inside & When to Use It
A crate should feel like a safe, cozy den—not a place of isolation. When it’s set up correctly, it becomes a space your puppy feels comfortable relaxing in.
What to put inside the crate:
• A comfortable bed or soft blanket (washable is best). If your puppy likes to tear up beds, a blanket may be the better option.
• A safe chew or puppy-approved toy
• Optional: an item with your scent to help your puppy feel secure
🚫 Avoid food bowls, messy treats, or anything that could be chewed apart and swallowed.
When to use the crate:
• At bedtime to establish a healthy sleep routine
• During naps—puppies need more sleep than most people realize
• When you can’t supervise (showering, cooking, or running quick errands)
• After playtime, once your puppy has gone potty
Helpful tips:
✔ Always take your puppy potty before crating
✔ Keep crate time age-appropriate—young puppies need frequent breaks
✔ Allow your puppy to rest quietly after exciting play or training
When used properly, the crate becomes a place your puppy chooses to relax—like chilling in their own bedroom—and that’s the goal. 🐾
