** HAPPY MONDAY VILLAGERS **
It's I Sapphire checking in. It's been 10 days since being here at Purr N' Ruff Rescue, and not alot has changed since my last check except I'm still not eating like my foster mom would like, so an Annonymous Donor donated some of this wet can food to see if it would help, well so far I've eaten 2 really good meals which makes my foster mommy really happy ๐Ÿ˜Š and honestly my tummy feels better too. Did I mention in my last check in how much I really appreciate those who have donated to my medical care, well in case I didn't, I truly THANK YOU from the bottom of my puppy heart. I still am receiving medical care but I'm on the road to recovery and still could use some help with medical expenses, so could you please help me share? Donations can be made directly to Creekside Veterinary Clinic, Mitchell, SD 605-990-3388 and just mention Purr N' Ruff Rescue. Thank you again to EVERYONE who helped bring me to safety. I truly WUFF WUFF you all!! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿพ I will check in again soon.

Reminder to all Mitchell residents...

We are here to help get outdoor community cats spayed and neutered .

If you have community cats that you care for, that you would like to continue maintaining, contact us. We will provide you with numbers you can use at Creekside Vet to have these animls spayed/neutered, virus tested, rabies vaccinated and tattooed for free. If you need traps, we can barrow you some.

If you have community cats in your neighborhood that need to be removed, turn them into animal control. Lakeview will do the vet work and they will be placed on farms that have passed an application process.

Only feral cats will be farmed. All friendly cats will go to the adoptable side of the rescue where they will be adopted as indoor pets.

Note that we are a spay and neuter program, not a rehoming service. The only cats that we will relocate are those that we take out of the pound.

Help us find our Scruffy.

In February 2023, two catsโ€”Tornado and Scruffyโ€”were adopted from AHCR. As with every adoption, the adopters signed a contract twice, clearly stating that if they could no longer keep the pets, they must be returned to AHCR.

Unfortunately, that agreement was not followed.

Recently, Tornado was found very far from the adopterโ€™s home by a Good Samaritan.
Thankfully, this person made sure Tornado was safe, updated on vaccines, and reached out to us. We are now working directly with them to ensure Tornado gets the care and security he deserves.

We are incredibly grateful that someone stepped up for himโ€”but this is a situation that should never have happened.

But where is the second cat, Scruffy?

We have been told these cats were given to a friendโ€ฆ who then gave them to a farm.
We still do not know where Scruffy is.
We are actively trying to locate him, and any information from the community would be deeply appreciated.

If you have any leads on Scruffy, please contact us immediately.

Why This Matters

AHCR works tirelessly to ensure every animal is placed into a loving, committed home.

This is why:

We have a thorough application process
We check references and home setups
We require adopters to sign contracts that protect the animals for life

When those agreements are ignored, animals can end up lost, unsafe, or worse. Tornado was lucky. Scruffyโ€™s fate is still unknown.

Our Commitment IS to our animals and to the people that adopt them.

We will always take our animals backโ€”no judgment, no questions, no shame.
Just bring them home.

Our only goal is their safety.

Please Share

Sharing this post helps us spread awareness, locate Scruffy, and remind adopters everywhere:
Returning to the rescue is ALWAYS the right choice.

While the current case is in Minnesota, the 2021 investigation where 6 neglected horses were seized occurred in Miner County, SD.

Excerpts from two recent Dakota News Now stories, links in post comments:

"Search warrant papers show that when Stillionโ€™s Minnesota home was on fire on September 12, Rosie was found, along with animal bones, carcasses, and other live animals that appeared to be neglected or abused.

Four years earlier, across the border in South Dakota, residents near Howard remember the day the Stillionsโ€™ home was on fire there, paired with concerns of animal neglect and abuse. The county took six horses."

"On September 12, at Stillionsโ€™ Minnesota home just east of the South Dakota border off Highway 212, a house fire occurred. First responders found nearby at least five kennels containing unknown animal carcasses, a push cart with numerous carcasses, some with extensive decay, numerous animal bones, and live dogs in kennels with empty dishes, or no shelter, some with health or malnutrition symptoms.

Documents show two dead horses, along with concerning conditions for numerous cats, rabbits, chickens, and other livestock."

๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ• GOOD AFTERNOON ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ•
It's me Sapphire, I just wanted to check in and say a couple things. First of all I would like to say THANK YOU to those of you who have donated to my medical care, I really appreciate it. โค๏ธ As you can see, I still have the bandages on and I will get my sutures out next week if everything looks good, so far my foster Mom says they are healing well. I'm still working on eating a good meal, but at least I'm eating something. I've also been doing alot of resting and snuggling with my foster Mom. I could still use some help with my medical expenses, so could you please share me and donations can be made to Creekside Veterinary Clinic, Mitchell, SD 605-990-3388 under the Rescue. Thank you again and I will check in soon!โค๏ธ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿพ

We are so grateful for a generous donor who has stepped up to support our rescue mission with a $100 donation toward Sapphireโ€™s vet care! This donor is hoping others will match their $100...or even give a little more...to help us cover Sapphireโ€™s medical expenses.
If youโ€™re able to help, please contact Creekside Vet in Mitchell, SD 605-990-3388 and mention Purr โ€˜n Ruff Rescue.
Sapphire is doing amazingly well considering everything sheโ€™s been through. Her paws are healing, and sheโ€™s finally starting to eat again. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and send prayers and good vibes as she continues her recovery. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

** We have AMAZING news to share!!! Sapphire is SAFE!! ๐Ÿ’™
She showed up on someoneโ€™s porch yesterday afternoon, and we had a volunteer rush out right away. With lots of patience, Alli was able to slowly gain Sapphireโ€™s trust and safely get her into the car. Yay!! ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ’• We would also like to shout out to all the families that contacted us with sitings and allowed us to put out food stations and the trap. Also thank you to Dakota Dog Rescue Services for you guidance and assistance and Mitchell Locker for meat scraps. What a wonderful Village we have โค๏ธ
Sweet Sapphire is in rough shape...her paws and nose are frostbitten...she had to stay overnight and receive medical treatment and have some sutures put in her paws at our local Creekside Veterinary Clinic, Mitchell, SD .
We are asking for help with her medical expenses, so far we are at roughly $700.00. If youโ€™re able, please consider donating by calling Creekside Vet at 605-990-3388.๏ฟฝPlease mention Purr Nโ€™ Ruff Rescue when making your donation.
Thank you all so much for your incredible support! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™

This female has been seen about 5 miles east of Mitchell. She is lost and needs to get home to her owners. If you see her, please c@all the Rescue 605-770-0037 immediately with the exact location and direction she was moving. DO NOT CALL OUT OR CHASE HER. She is skittish and in an unfamiliar area. We are asking people to please check their barns, sheds and garages with this cold weather she could be trying to find a place for shelter. Thank You!!
