Sometimes the days pass by so fast we forget how long our animals have been in the shelter, but I’m sure they are long days for our residents.
I happened to notice that tomorrow marks Steele’s 1 year as a HCHS resident. He was on a home visit for a little bit where we were able to learn more about him but it just wasn’t the right fit.
Steele is great for us here but deserves a furever home. He is not the best around small kids but has been great around our high school volunteers. He is very independent so prefers to be the only pet. Steele loves to run and play meaning he needs a fenced in yard. If you know Huskies, you know they love to escape to go on adventures, and Steele is not the exception.

Steele is medium sized, around 5 years old, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and heartworm negative. His adoption fee is $100. Contact us if Steele sounds like the perfect dog for your home.

As we all know, one of the hardest things to think about is a death in the family. But what if that person was an animal lover? What if that person didn't have much, but what she did have, she put into her pets? That usually means people dump animals on them. Soooo even if this kind person worked hard to spay/neuter/vaccinate, and treat medical emergencies, she could never get a head of it.

A dear elderly lady has been a part of the spay/neuter game on her own for years. We also did our best to help when we could. But unfortunately she has passed away and her home will be sold. She was a feral lover and no one went without a meal. Most had been spay/neutered for years and needed updated with shots before a new home. And some came to join the crowd within the year and blessed us with kittens. All will need rehomed. Some have been handled a little more often and will warm up to a new loving family. While others will judge from a distance.

We are hopeful we can place several TNR cats this evening from 5-6 pm. As a reminder, TNR cats do not come inside the shelter, they will need placed today. Please private message your numb to visit with us if you are ready for a working kitty. Some deserve a little more attention, as they were very loved from afar. Thank you to all that spay/neuter/adopt/ and advocate. And thank you to all our community cat friends that remember if you feed it, you fix it. And this sweet gal did as much as she possibly could out of pocket. 🙏🏼💔♥️

I am excited to officially make the announcement here….
Some of you may have heard that I am retiring after 18+ years of loving each and every one of your furry family members!
I have been training my replacement Keirstin for several years now, and I am thrilled for her to step in and take over for me! She may even already know some of your dogs as she fills in for me often and loves this space and caring for them as much as I do. I am still here until some time in July, but then I will take more time to enjoy fishing with my husband! Who knows I may get to pop in and help her out once in a while over the years, but she is ready! It’s bittersweet as I have been SO blessed to be the one you trust with them while you are away, but I assure you I would not be able to take this step if I wasn’t 100% sure she is the perfect one to continue what I have built. We will have some meet and greet days set up this spring for anyone that would like to come introduce themselves and/or say your goodbyes to me. Thank you thank you thank you for making my time here unforgettable and amazing!! I have loved serving Harrison county and beyond since 2008. 💕🐾
