254 days…💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

That’s how long Rocky has been waiting.
But the truth is… his wait started even before that.

254 days ago, Raytown Animal Control responded to a call about other dogs at a home and found Rocky alone in the front yard. During their investigation, they discovered something heartbreaking: Rocky had been thrown outside like trash and left to survive on his own for weeks.

And still… he stayed.

He slept on that porch. Day after day. Night after night. Waiting for the person he loved, trusted, and called family to open that door and let him back in.

But they never did.
Hungry. Thirsty. Scared. Confused.
He never wandered off.�He never caused trouble.�He simply waited.
That kind of heartbreak changes a dog.
Because of what he’s been through, Rocky may need a little time to trust new people. He doesn’t know everyone’s intentions right away. But once he realizes he’s safe, his walls come down fast and his love comes pouring out.
And Rocky has so much love left to give.
He’s doing amazing in dog playgroups, enjoys doggy day outs, rides great in the car, walks beautifully on a leash, and loves to play so much that he even throws his own toys for himself.
He’s around 3 years old.�He keeps his kennel clean.�He’s trying so hard.
254 days have gone by.
How many more before someone shows Rocky what forever really means?

Eight years old. 💔

That’s how long Kano has spent learning what it means to trust, to love, and to simply be someone’s companion. And now, after being in the shelter since April, he’s still waiting for someone to give him the one thing he wants most: a home.
Kano is the kind of dog who doesn’t ask for much. Just consistency. A human to be near. A home where he can feel safe, loved, and part of a family.

Shelter life has been hard on him. He’s very shy here, and the noise and uncertainty can make it difficult for his true personality to shine. But we know dogs like Kano. We know that once they’re given patience, stability, and love, they bloom like wildflowers after rain 🌱

He’s housetrained, knows basic commands, enjoys toys, loves treats, and has even lived with another dog before. Beneath that timid exterior is a loyal heart just waiting for someone to believe in him.
At 8 years old, Kano deserves more than a kennel. He deserves soft beds, quiet mornings, familiar faces, and a place to finally exhale.

He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.

The “Royal” Treatment 👑🐾

Our final stop of the day was with our friends at Zoom Room, and I don’t even know where to begin.

Normally, their facility is buzzing. Dogs of all ages learning, growing, training, and building confidence through private lessons, group classes, agility work, puppy training, and enrichment. It’s a place designed to help dogs become their best selves.

But today… it was all about Royal.

Less than a week ago, Royal was abandoned in a home. Left behind. Forgotten.

And today?

Today she was treated like the Queen of Kansas City.

Zoom Room went above and beyond in a way I’ll never forget. They cleared the space just for her, rolled out agility equipment, scattered toys everywhere, and even set up a full treat buffet for their VIP guest. For an entire hour, Royal had the place all to herself. No stress. No chaos. Just freedom, fun, and love.

Watching her run, play, explore, and simply be a dog again was something special. It felt like watching her little heart remember that life can still be good.

A huge thank you to the amazing team at Zoom Room for showing Royal what kindness looks like when she needed it most. You didn’t just give her an hour of fun… you gave her a piece of herself back. ❤️

Today, I had the privilege of going back to Valley Hope in Atchison, Kansas, to celebrate two years of sobriety.

Walking back onto that campus felt like stepping into a chapter of my life I’ll never forget. Before I even walked into the building, my emotions were all over the place. Every corner, every hallway, every memory came rushing back. I remembered exactly what it felt like to arrive there, completely lost, terrified, and unsure if I could ever find my way out.

At Valley Hope, each person celebrating sobriety is introduced and given the chance to share their experience, strength, and hope. Sitting there today, listening and reflecting, I was reminded just how far I’ve come.

I learned so much there, not just about my addiction, but about myself. I learned what surrender looked like. I learned what healing looked like. And maybe most importantly, I learned that I wasn’t alone.

What makes Valley Hope so special is the people. So many of the staff are in recovery themselves, and you can feel that the moment you arrive. There’s a level of understanding, compassion, and kindness there that can’t be taught. It’s lived. It’s real. And for someone who was broken and scared like I was, that meant everything.

Going back today reminded me why I share my story so openly. Because there are people out there right now who feel exactly like I did, hopeless and scared, wondering if life can ever get better.

It can. ❤️

Sobriety has given me a life I never thought was possible. Every single sober day is a gift, and I’ll never stop being grateful for that.

And if you’re struggling right now, please hear me: you do not have to do this alone. My DMs are always open if you just need someone to talk to. No judgment. Just someone who understands.

It took Penny 1,113 days to be chosen.

For more than three years, she watched her family leave. She watched her friends leave. She watched neighboring dogs come and go while she remained behind.

Still, Penny waited.

She never gave up hope, even when it seemed like no one was coming for her.

What Penny didn't know was that hundreds of miles away, a family saw her story. From the moment they saw her, they knew she was the one.

Penny took her freedom ride.

Transport was coordinated, and along the way, her family waited with open arms, ready to finally bring her home.

After 1,113 days of waiting, Penny is no longer a shelter dog.

It’s such a privilege to be able to take a shelter dog like Royal and give her something she may have never experienced before. Today, that meant a trip to Scenthound. And this wasn’t just a bath and brush, it was a moment of dignity, comfort, and love. 🐾

Has Royal ever had a bath before? The truth is, we’ll probably never know. But what I do know is she’s likely never been spoiled like this.

Just days ago, Royal was abandoned and left alone in a home, scared and forgotten. Thankfully, my friends at KC Pet Project stepped in and made sure she was safe. And now here she is, getting the spa treatment of a lifetime.

That’s the beautiful thing about rescue. One moment a dog is surviving, the next they’re being reminded what it feels like to be cared for. Like they matter. Because they do.

A huge thank you to Scenthound and their incredible staff for always going above and beyond, especially for the shelter dogs I bring through your doors. You don’t just clean them up, you help restore their spirit. That kind of compassion ripples far beyond what most people ever see. 💛
