🌿 Thankful Thursday! 🌿

A big thank you to this energetic crew from Trueblood Real Estate! They rolled up their sleeves and tackled some much-needed garden cleanup before the storms rolled through this week.

Keeping our grounds looking their best is important for our animals, visitors, and everyone who comes through our doors. But with so many animals in our care, projects like this can be tough for our team to fit into the schedule.

That’s why we’re especially grateful for the energy, enthusiasm, and helping hands Trueblood brought to the shelter! Their hard work made a huge difference to help our property looking welcoming for our community and our animals.

This week, the news has definitely gone to the dogs! And one of our staff favorites made quite the impression Monday during WNDU’s 2nd Chance Pet feature. 🐾

Meet Alize, an almost 6-year-old Boxer mix with plenty of charm. She’s friendly, playful, and great with people of all ages. She’s also done great with other dogs, but she’s looking for a cat-free home.

Alize is a big fan of toys, loves a good play session, and has a goofy personality that makes her impossible not to smile around. She’s also potty trained, crate trained, and has been a star at community events. So much so that she’s becoming something of a local celebrity! ⭐

Alize has been waiting for her forever home since early March, and she’s just one of the amazing dogs we’re hoping to place as we work to clear out our Adoption Dog Center.

🐾 Still looking to adopt? You can browse our adoptable animals online at humanesocietystjc.org/adopt/ including Mae, our featured pet and currently the longest-staying dog in the shelter. She arrived at the end of October and is still waiting for her chance to find a home.

❤️ REMINDER: ALL DOG ADOPTION FEES ARE WAIVED THROUGH AUGUST 18!

We're so grateful for the incredible response we've received from our community as we work to find homes for our dogs ahead of upcoming building upgrades. The number of applications and interest has been tremendous, and we truly appreciate everyone who has opened their heart to a shelter dog.

Our team is working hard to process applications and help each adopter through the process as quickly as possible. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as we catch up with the wonderful response.

Sunny was adopted yesterday and unfortunately got loose from her new home today near Southern View and Ironwood Roads in South Bend.

Sunny is in a brand-new environment and may be scared or confused. Please keep an eye out for her and share this post to help us get her home safely!

🚨 36 DOGS. 7 DAYS. WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🐾

Your donations are being put to work! ❤️ Thanks to your support, we’re upgrading our facilities with a new HVAC unit in our adoption dog center and completing important floor maintenance to improve cleaning, sanitation, and conditions for the dogs in our care.

But first... we need to empty the adoption center!

By 12 PM on Tuesday, August 18, we need to find temporary or permanent homes for approximately 36 dogs. During the HVAC installation, the ward will be without adequate airflow or air conditioning, so our dogs cannot safely remain in the space.

🏡 ADOPT: Adoption fees are WAIVED for shelter dogs through August 18! Dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, and microchipped.

❤️ FOSTER: Give a dog a temporary home through at least Monday, August 24. We provide the food, bedding, toys, leash/harness, and medications—you provide the love and a safe place to stay!

⏰ Please apply by Thursday, August 13 so our team has time to process applications and schedule appointments.

📺 Did you catch Princess on the Saturday morning news?

She was an absolute superstar as she joined our Outreach Coordinator and her foster mom, Rory, for her TV debut. Princess may have been chill on TV, but don’t let her fool you… this lovable little bulldozer has a serious weakness for tennis balls!

Princess is an 8-year-old mixed breed who came into our care in February after being abandoned. Now, she’s enjoying the comforts of foster care while waiting for the right family to give her a fresh start.

Princess is looking for a cat-free home without small children, and any canine companions will need to be the right match. But if you’ve got a tennis ball and a little room for a lovable bulldozer, she might be your girl.

And there’s another important part of Princess’s story: fostering.

Rory and Princess are a wonderful example of just how life-changing fostering can be. Rory opened her home and gave this amazing pup a break from shelter life while she waits for her forever family. That kind of support can make an incredible difference for a shelter pet.

One of our Animal Control Officers found a pregnant goat last night on the loose near Blackberry and Harrison roads.

We’re hoping to locate her owner so we can get her safely back home where she belongs. ❤️
