Last week, we had the incredible honor of stepping in to save the life of a true local hero — Rikki.

Rikki isn’t just any pup. She’s a trained search and rescue dog who has spent her life working alongside one of our amazing local fire departments, helping protect and serve our community. When she came to us with a life-threatening emergency, we knew we had to act fast.

Dr. Joe and the crew went to work, performing emergency surgery to remove Rikki’s ruptured spleen. It was truly our own version of a “search and rescue” mission. We got to see her again today for her post-op follow up, and she’s feeling so much better. Tail wags and kisses all around

To give back to someone who has given so much, and to help her continue spending time with the family and community she loves — this is why we do what we do ❤️💙

This gentle giant came to see Dr. Joe for a laparoscopic gastropexy and neuter—and we couldn’t have asked for a sweeter patient 💙

What a crazy week of surgical and imaging consults! Here’s one of the many interesting cases from this week: this doggo came to see Dr. Joe for a surgical referral after possibly tearing their cranial cruciate ligament (ACL).

Well, not only did they tear their cruciate ligament, but they also had a laterally luxated patella (kneecap)

After determining which surgical techniques were best for the patient and their lifestyle, Dr. Joe completed a Extracapsular Lateral Suture Stabilization with Trochlear Wedge Recession to correct the torn cruciate and luxating patella 😮‍💨

Now this doggo has a completely refreshed knee and is on their road to recovery! ❤️

This little friend came to see Dr. Joe a couple weeks ago for bilateral entropion and recurring facial fold issues that were painful and smelly 🥺

Fast forward to today, he’s fully cleared after his entropion repair and facial fold resection! No more eye issues, plus he and his owners can finally enjoy the face rubs and kisses without having to worry about those pesky recurring facial fold infections 🤩

Dr. Joe had a special patient in for an involved surgery to remove some sizable masses that had been weighing her down. It’s always so rewarding to be able to provide relief like this – watching them leave feeling lighter, more comfortable, and with a renewed outlook is one of the best parts of our job.

These masses, while concerning, were a real weight on her body, and being able to alleviate that worry for her and her family is always truly fulfilling. It’s moments like these that remind us of why we love what we do– to help improve our patients’ quality of life and ease any discomfort they may be facing!

We’re often asked how we can do this every day. The truth is, it’s never easy.

Every loss is incredibly hard, especially when it’s one of our beloved pets who have become a part of our extended family. As veterinary professionals, we carry the emotional weight of each goodbye, day in and day out. But being able to help our lifelong friends make their peaceful journey to the Rainbow Bridge is one of the most meaningful and heartfelt parts of what we do.

It never gets easier, but knowing we’re there for our patients and their families during such a difficult time is what keeps us going. We can be the strength and compassion required to get our families through such an emotionally difficult time.

It is something truly special, and we are deeply honored to be able to provide this service as a small, family-run practice for your pets and families💔🌈

We’re celebrating Gunner’s incredible progress with a multimodal approach to managing degenerative joint disease.
