Life can be hard, heavy, and lonely. Many countries around the world have what’s called a ‘third place’: a spot outside of home and work where people naturally gather, just to be together. Researchers have pointed out that this kind of space has mostly disappeared in the U.S. So we end up spending far too much time alone. Talking, laughing, sharing space, and not being alone lowers stress, supports your immune system, and honestly just makes life feel lighter.
So, I’m starting something new: weekly Wednesday hangouts, completely free, no strings attached. They’ll alternate between in-person and online, every other week:
* This Wednesday, July 8th — In person, 3:30–5:30 PM
* Next Wednesday July 15th — Online, 4:30–5:30 PM
In person, we’ll meet near the beach at Lake Hiawatha in South Minneapolis. There are picnic tables under big shade trees, and the park has bathrooms too. It’s a quiet beach with a ton of free parking. It’s casual — bring a blanket or chair to sit on, and feel free to bring drinks and snacks or whatever you need to feel comfortable and content.
Email reminders will go out the day of to confirm location and any last-minute changes. *If it’s raining or the weather doesn’t cooperate, I’ll be at Sister Sludge Coffee instead.
A few people have asked about bringing their animal companions along. I’d love for them to join if they’re well-behaved and comfortable in a group setting — just please be ready to head out with them if it becomes too much for them (or anyone else around). Your animal’s comfort always comes first, and there’s no judgment either way!
Please RSVP so I can keep you informed of any changes
One thing I do want to mention — I’m not able to personally keep track of who wants reminders week to week, so I ask that you RSVP each time you’d like to join. Once you RSVP, you’ll automatically get the reminder emails with all the details.
If you know you want to hang out at some point but aren’t sure when you’ll be free, you can RSVP for in-person or online hangouts anytime on the booking page of my website, under the Gatherings tab.
