Sweet Treat Retrievers

Sweet Treat Retrievers As a small in-home breeder of Golden Retrievers, we strive to preserve the health and temperament of the breed. We believe in breeding to better the breed.

We promote producing pups that can be all-around dogs, from doing fieldwork, to sports, to therapy or service work, and also conformation. Our goal with our breeding program is to breed golden retrievers that fit the original standard. Our dogs are always fully health tested before breeding, we prefer that they have several titles as well. All of our dogs are AKC registered and have K9data profile

s. We enjoy spending time hunting and doing sports with our dogs. Feel free to send us a message for any inquiries or questions.

After a long hiatus, it's time to reintroduce ourselves. We are Sweet Treat Retrievers.

As Golden Retriever enthusiasts our goals are to educate and promote ethical breeding, which includes health testing, titling, and proving dogs have breed workability. We have done thorough research in the lineage of our dogs and our lines are filled with dogs who have obtained the necessary health testing and accomplished titles/are proven hunters.

We adhere to the GRCA code of ethics and follow their guidelines for health testing. All of our dogs have a full genetic panel done (including the new ICH2 test) and OFA hips, elbows, heart, and eyes (yearly).

We train and compete in a variety of different events including but not limited to:
- Agility
- Obedience
- Rally
- Fastcat
- Dock Diving

Our dogs are avid upland hunters, along with occasionally hunting waterfowl. Each of our dogs have been on birds since puppyhood. Our younger girls have had many successful seasons between the two of them. They have done well working as a team. We still continue to be dedicated to our oldest girl's retrieval work and she is a very fierce little water dog, even after retirement. Also despite our passed dog being a golden mix, she as well was a hard worker who outran other dogs in the field. She was always one to find the lost birds and she would've hunted until she dropped if we had let her. We miss having a dog like her out in the fields and hope that all of our goldens can be just as fantastic on birds. We plan to pursue titles in hunt tests and potentially field trials in the near future with the young dogs.

All of our dogs are handled by junior handlers in a 4-H local training program. They train and compete with the youth members at both County and State level. Some of the 4-H events they compete in are Agility, Jumpers, Showmanship, Rally, Obedience, Brace, and 4-Dog Team. Our dogs have won Awards of Excellence, Reserve Champions, and Champions at the State level.

We believe that advanced training is of upmost important but we also like teaching tricks. Obtaining trick titles is fun but higher level tricks can be used for things like animal acting! One of our dogs has been in several commercials and even a movie.

However, our dogs are first and foremost treasured as pets in our home. Dogs retired from the breeding program for whatever reason continue to live with our family and enjoy the extra treats!

In order to achieve our breeding goals outlined above, we are dedicated to breeding puppies that have the ability to:
--> be confident in many high pressure environments like hunting, search and rescue, or service work
--> be calm and social enough to do therapy work or dabble in conformation
--> do fun events like sports, acting, etc.
--> be well mannered pets at home

To set them up for success, we start socialization shortly after birth through early neurological stimulation, early scent introduction, and safe exposure to other sights, sounds, textures, as well as trusted people and animals. They also learn the basic foundations for crate training and potty training.

Producing all-around dogs is a key part of our program which is why our puppies are typically only available to working, sport, or active homes. However, we may at times have a dog with other, lower energy needs. We sell our puppies on limited registration except under specific circumstances.

Every litter is carefully temperament tested and evaluated on their structure, drive, and interests. This helps us to place each puppy with the right person/family. Before choosing our puppy placements, we conduct in-depth, comprehensive interviews with any potential owners. We are invested in maintaining lifelong contact and support for every puppy we send home. In the event that one of our dogs can no longer be cared for by their owner, we will take them back at any time for any reason.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions. We can be contacted by FB Messenger or by email - [email protected] during traditional business hours.

We wanted to share a quick update on Roo. She is enjoying the dorm life in northern Minnesota. For those that don't know us well, Roo is our son Carter's service dog.

Roo recovered very well from her spay and had no issues whatsoever. She did great at the Anoka County 4H dog shows and then went on to win Grand Champion in showmanship at the Minnesota 4H state dog show! Unfortunately next year Carter ages out of 4H, so they was very excited about their win. Carter has plans to do several AKC sports with Roo in the near future and hopes to earn some titles.

Although we weren't able to pass on her wonderful personality and abilities to puppies, we are still so glad we had the chance to learn from her and that she continues to help Carter every day.

If you want to hear more about their adventures, go give them a follow on Instagram.

We are happy to introduce Cinnamon Maple Mayhem "Flare"

We chose her from Maple Dreams Golden Retrievers outstanding litter at the end of July. Born 6/29/21, she is nearly 6 months old. We delayed to make this post until we had decided on a registered name...and we have! It will be shared as soon as she is officially AKC registered.

She has been such a sweet puppy and was fully potty trained after only a month home. She went through a chewing and biting phase, which has calmed down now that she is just about done teething. We love to watch her mind work as she learns new things. She has great drive but also a very calm, even temperament.

Flare loves hanging out with our other two girls and spending time at the cabin. Her favorite things to do are swim at the cabin, hang off the spring pole rope, and cuddle with the family.

She has been introduced to water, wings, and throwing dummy's. We are excited to start her in the field, sports, and the 4H dog project. We can't wait to see where she takes us.

More pictures to come soon! 💕

***TW Surgery Photos***

(Nesting surgical photos, beware!)

Roo was spayed yesterday afternoon and is doing very well. We made the tough decision because she has juvenile cataracts that are most likely genetic. As well as recurrent struggles with some allergies. She will continue to compete in sports and other events after she has healed.

At this moment, Carter is a kennel tech/vet assistant for our local veterinary clinic, so they had the very cool experience to be present for the surgery and take photos. They also created an educational display and presented it to a small group. How awesome is that?!

We will also have some very exciting news to share with everyone soon.

Roo is a 7 year old golden retriever. She is a rich golden color with a moderate coat. She weighs 58 lbs and stands at about 21 3/4". Her lines are a blend of working and show. We currently compete in agility, dock diving, fastcat, and more. Despite her age, Roo always loves learning new tricks/commands and has a minimum of 100 in her repertoire. Because of this, she has done several animal acting/talent gigs, including a movie that will be coming out soon!

Before competing in other venues, Roo was a great 4-H dog. She won many grand champions and reserve champions in various events, starting at a young age. Including high placing awards at the Minnesota 4-H State Dog Show. She even won a mock MACH bar in the agility fun run ring too.

As you can see by the handful of titles at the end of her name, Roo has a drive for sports! She's high arousal at dock diving and fastcat, barking her head off - raging to go. And then a sleepy dog at home, who might ask for a pet or maybe for you to throw the ball. When it's game time, she knows she can be a little insane, but otherwise she's not much for energy.

Roo also has a great nose and good instinct. She works to please, has amazing trainability, and is always willing to try new things. Although she wasn't a big fan of upland hunting, she loves duck hunting and crashing through the water. Unfortunately we don't duck hunt very often, so she misses out a bit.

Roo is a FANTASTIC multipurpose service dog for our son, Carter Ambrose Bitzer. She has been a fully trained working dog for 4 years now. She went to college with him for a year and this is their 2nd year working in education together. When her gear is on, she is a very professional dog and zones in on work mode. But even when needed she'll task if she's off-duty.

Unfortunately Roo has Juvenile cataracts that are likely genetic, but luckily have never progressed. She also has allergies that are manageable but should not be in a breeding dog. She was spayed at 3.5 years old and never had a litter.

Some updates about her will continue to be posted on this page and if you would like to find additional information and fun updates, you can follow Roo on Instagram!

Sweet Treat Retrievers is a small, in-home breeder of AKC registered golden retrievers. We strive for dogs that are healthy, smart and capable of thriving in a multitude of settings. We want to set our puppies up for success so we start socialization as soon as they are on the ground. We use a variety of programs including ENS, ESI, and Puppy Culture. For more information on these programs we highly recommend reading Galody's informational page. http://galodygundogs.com/puppy-culture-avidog

Our puppies are only available to active or working homes, including but not limited to: dog sports, hunting, SAR, service work, and therapy work. However, some exceptions may be made for active companion homes.

Before being bred, we perform various health tests and achieve titles on each dog. Titles may range from conformation, obedience/rally, performance sports, field trials, and trick dog/cgc, etc. Our dogs also participate in the 4-H dog project with youth handlers, have hands-on hunting experience, and several are successful in both therapy work and/or service work. Some of our dogs even do animal acting!

Health test results and pedigrees are available upon request, but may also be viewed on K9data and OFA.org.

Feel free to comment or message us with any questions.

Avidog offers a comprehensive programme via their Litter A-Z course. It starts before pregnancy and includes optimal nutrition and an 'Early Scent Introduction' programme.
