In this clip from Lena Dunham’s episode, we talk about something I found so fascinating — how much her pigs love music. 🎶🐷

She shares how they have an evening routine where calming music gets turned on, and she can literally see their bodies relax and settle down as they listen. It’s such a beautiful reminder of how sensitive, emotional, and aware pigs really are.

This episode was so special and full of moments like this. I’ll put the links to Apple and Spotify in the comments below if you’d like to listen to the full conversation 🎧✨

One of the simplest ways to build trust with a pig is to learn how to lead them.

And sometimes, that means walking behind them. 🐷

I know it sounds backwards, but when I walk behind a pig, I’m setting the pace, directing where we’re going, and helping the pig feel confident about following my guidance.

When we walk in front of a pig, we’re often following their decisions. When we walk beside them, they’re usually setting the pace. But when we calmly guide from behind, we’re taking on the leadership role.

Pigs naturally look for leadership because they live by hierarchy. If nobody steps into that role, many pigs will happily volunteer for the position themselves. 😅

That’s one reason leash walks can be such a valuable training tool. They’re not just exercise—they’re an opportunity to build communication, trust, and respect.

Melvin has been working hard on all of those things while he’s been here. 💛

Tell me about your pig:
Do you take your pig on walks? If so, what’s their favorite part—the walk itself or the snacks that come with it? 😂🐽

Throwback to JP at 5 years old sharing some pig wisdom 🐷💛

“There’s no such thing as a teacup pig.”

He nailed it.

It’s a cute idea, but it leads to a lot of misunderstandings and unrealistic expectations. Pigs don’t stay tiny—and knowing that before bringing one home makes all the difference.

This is one of those videos that’s worth sharing, especially with someone who’s thinking about getting a pig.

Because the more people understand the truth,
the better life pigs will have. 💛

Save this for later or send it to someone who needs to hear it 😉

Just a reminder to be very careful when buying a piglet online.

I recently came across this tricky page that had stolen one of my videos, which immediately raised a red flag for me. After looking closer, there were several other warning signs too:

• Many posts made on the same day
• Piglets from completely different homes and backgrounds
• Very short captions with tons of hashtags
• Reviews turned OFF

Unfortunately, piglet scams are very common.

Before sending anyone money for a piglet, take the time to research the breeder, ask questions, and make sure everything checks out.

If something feels off… it probably is.

Straw and hay are not the same thing.

Straw is bedding.
Hay is dried grass.

Straw can be a fantastic enrichment tool for pigs — especially in colder months. Pigs are natural nest builders, and giving them straw allows them to burrow, root, and create warm sleeping spaces.

But straw is not food.

And one very important tip:
Do not sprinkle your pig’s feed into their straw bedding. Feed should always be given separately to prevent unnecessary ingestion and potential digestive issues.

Pigs thrive when we understand how they’re designed — not when we treat them like other livestock species.

If this helped you, save it.
If you missed Part 1 about hay, go back and read it.

I’m seeing a lot of posts saying pigs need hay in their diet.

They don’t.

Pigs are not cows.
They are not goats.
They are not ruminants.

Their digestive system is much more similar to ours.

Hay is dried, long-strand grass. It is not a complete diet, and pigs cannot extract enough nutrition from it to survive. Even pasture pigs must be fed balanced pig feed daily.

In fact, I personally don’t use hay for my pigs at all due to:
– choking risk
– possible impaction
– mite concerns
– and because most pigs don’t eat it anyway

Fresh grass for enrichment? Sure.
A bale of hay as a “diet”? No.

We have to stop treating pigs like livestock species they are not.

Part 2 will be about straw — because that’s a completely different conversation.

Save this so you don’t forget.
And send it to someone who thinks pigs live on hay.

In this clip from my episode with Ben from The Farrier Group, he shares how he went from trimming a few pigs part-time… to building a full-time business that now serves clients all across the country.

What really sets him apart is his approach. While many hoof trimmers rely heavily on restraint, Ben focuses on supporting the pig — helping them feel secure rather than just held down. And the pigs truly seem to respond to that.

If you’re looking for a hoof trimmer, curious about proper hoof care, or just want to hear from someone who has worked with so many different hooved animals, this episode is for you. Ben is such a nice guy and has a natural rapport with animals. I had so much fun hearing his stories.

🚨 Pig Ear PSA 🚨

Pigs do NOT get ear mites like cats and dogs.

Let me say that again for the people in the back…
That dark, waxy, gunky stuff in your pig’s ears?

It’s. Normal.

Cats and dogs have naturally clean ears. So when their ears get dirty, smelly, or full of debris — that’s a red flag.

Pigs are different.

Pig ears are supposed to be waxy and gunky. That waxy plug actually protects their eardrum. It’s part of how their ears are designed.

And please hear me on this:

🚫 Do NOT spray water in your pig’s ears
🚫 No saline
🚫 No oils
🚫 No “ear flush” solutions

Putting liquid in a pig’s ear can cause real damage.

In this episode of the Pet Pig Podcast, I explain:
• What’s normal
• When you should actually worry
• Safe ways to manage buildup

If you want the episode, see the comments for the links. 🐷

Let’s stop treating pigs like small dogs. They’re not.

“Why do you have a pet pig? Aren’t they stinky and dirty?”

I get that question all the time.

And I understand it — because if you’ve never known a pig personally, you only know the stereotype.

But pigs are actually incredibly clean animals. They don’t want to live in filth. They’re smart, sensitive, intuitive, and deeply relational.

And the love?
You truly don’t understand it until you experience it.

I’ve had pet pigs for 22 years.
What started as love turned into passion.
What started as passion turned into purpose.

Helping other people understand their pigs — watching them go from overwhelmed to confident — that has brought me so much joy.

So whether you’re here because:
🐷 You already have a pig
🐷 You’re thinking about one
🐷 Or you’re just here for the cute content

I’m so glad you’re here.

Tell me —
Do you have a pig already, or are you pig-curious? 💛

In this clip from Naomi’s episode, she talks about one of their early challenges — teaching Tupelo how to just walk. Not follow, not stop every two seconds… just walk 😅
Now? Daily walks are part of their routine, and they head out on beautiful wooded trails together like pros.

If you follow Tupelo’s Tales, you already know — their walks are incredible to watch and proof of how much time, patience, and consistency they’ve poured into Tupelo. That work paid off, and now he genuinely loves getting out there 🐽💚

If you don’t follow them yet, go follow Tupelo’s Tales right now. I promise you’ll get a smile on your face every single day.
