Ezra was a priest that lead the rebuilding of the Jewish temple around 539bc. Nehemiah was the prophet that lead the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem around the same time. In the book of Ezra we find the people shouting and praising the Lord over the laying of the foundation for the building. It says they shouted so loud it was heard far away. When Ezra sees me whinnys loudly now to let me know he loves his food. It’s a horsey thank you for blessings to come!

Ezra cannot heal himself, he cannot serve himself. He is a captive. We must work together as a team to bring him wellness. It is day seven and he is starting to show improvement. His eyes are bright and he holds his head up high and is now whinnying when he sees me. He took his wormer like a champ with no halter and just a little resentment in his eyes when finished. Here’s a little lesson on the difference community can make.

Ezra was a priest and scribe in the days when the Israelites were in captivity in Persia. Cyrus was the Persian king that God used to rebuild Jerusalem and return the exiles to their home. Cyrus believed in the Israelites God. after being read Isaiah’s prophecy about him by name given several hundred years before Cyrus’s birth. Just because he believed in the power of the Israelites’ God, he was still a pagan Persian ruler. You see he had a personal relationship with the Hebrews, but not a personal relationship with God. God used him to further his will but never called Cyrus his child.

Day 4:
While delivering calves for transport Ezra caught my eye. As I entered the pen to get a closer look I noticed all the bite marks and scars. This was a gentle soul. He stood still without a halter as I ran my hands over every inch of his body. I felt his ribs, joints, checked his feet, which he picked up for me. I evaluated the scar over one eye, all the scrapes, bites and scars. His eyes were tired, forlorn, evidence that he had given up as if he knew where he was going. After much deliberation and pondering, my heart said I couldn’t leave him there. He deserved a second chance.….no different from the many chances our Lord provides us. Except that it wasn’t his decisions that brought him to this place. It was lack of love. We make choices, but we never lack the love of God.

He is eating very well. We started him slow and feed him small amounts several times a day. He is a body condition of 1. We are adding supplements and wormed him yesterday. He is gaining a brightness in his eyes when he sees me. And his ears are up!!
