"Hey friends, this heat is no joke! 🥵 Please make sure you’re staying safe out there—stay hydrated, avoid being outside during the hottest parts of the day, and check on your neighbors (especially the furry, feathery, and scaly ones!). Our animals here at Baird’s Nest are getting extra water and shade to keep cool. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them too. Let’s all get through this heatwave safe!!

Y’all, running Baird's Nest Exotic Rescue isn’t just adorable faces and fuzzy snuggles—sometimes it’s emergency vet visits, late-night drives, and digging deep to cover surprise expenses. 🐐💨

This past week, we’ve had a lot come at us. We took in a very sick African Grey who needed immediate medical attention—he’s still fighting, but we’re giving him all the care and love we’ve got. 💔🦜

And just when we thought things might calm down, a little sugar glider came in with a painful abscess on their face. Vet bills are stacking up faster than a goat on a trampoline, and gas costs for pickups and rescues aren’t exactly helping either.

Our adorable chinchilla is getting his last dust bath before he heads to his forever home this Sunday. 🐾 We couldn’t be happier for him and his new family!

💔🐦 African Grey Update 🐦💔

Our little Grey warrior is home from the vet and resting in a cozy playpen since he still doesn’t have strength in his feet. Sadly, he’s been diagnosed with heavy metal poisoning, which is as scary as it sounds—but we’ve started chelation treatment and are fighting hard.

The good news? He’s eating and drinking on his own (even snuck a couple blueberries 🫐), and—best sign of all—he gave us the full stink eye when offered his meds. Classic “I am betrayed” drama. So yep, the sass is still strong.

We’re still playing it by ear, but for now, he’s stable, sassy, and in the best care we can give him. Please keep sending those good vibes for our brave little feather-butt.

Our hearts are full and our cheeks hurt from smiling! 🥹💕

Our sweet chinchilla (yes, the floofy little heart-stealer himself) has officially found his forever home this Sunday! 🏡✨

From rescue to real-life fairy tale, this little guy now has his very own kingdom to bounce around in—and yes, we definitely packed extra dust bath fluff for the journey. 💨🛁

OK, so Shannon (Birds and Beaks Rescue and Rehab) talked me into getting chatgpt... and apparently its fault lol... so I asked her to make me an update post for the week...I think we are in trouble lol

🦜 Feathers, Fur, and a Whole Lotta Feels: This Week’s Intakes! 🐾

Sanctuary life this week? Oh, honey. It’s been a cocktail of chaos, cuteness, and concern—with a splash of "I need more coffee and a hug."

🦜 Let’s talk parrots. Not one—but TWO African Greys just joined the family.
One is an absolute diva in the best way. Sassy, and already judging me like I forgot to refill her pellet dish with something artisanal. Total icon. She’s got sparkle and spice, and I already love her unreasonable demands.

The second Grey? A whole different story. He came in sickly, fragile, and honestly… we’re not sure he’ll make it through the night. We’ve got him bundled, warm, and surrounded by all the love and care we can pour into him. He’s safe. He’s not alone. And we’re hoping for a miracle. 💔

🌙 Then came the Sugar Gliders: a trio of nocturnal ninja floofs.
These three pint-sized marsupial mayhem machines have made themselves at home and declared the treat stash their territory. Loud? Absolutely. Cute? Dangerously. Permanent residents? You betcha. They’re here to stay—and we’re totally enchanted.

🐭 Oh, and one more surprise—a chinchilla.
Soft, squishy, and extremely unimpressed with literally everything. They’ve already claimed a corner and are giving “dust bath royalty” vibes. We love them.
