My father passed recently and honestly, I have mixed feelings. He struggled his entire life with addiction issues that ultimately destroyed our relationship towards the end. That does not take away from the good he had done and I did my best to keep him sober for as long as I could. Dad, thank you for the best childhood and I know you are so proud of the person I’ve grown up to be. I carry your sense of humor when explaining hard truths to my dog training clients. I carry your spirit of service when I volunteer at the coop and fwb. I carry your love of God in my unconditional acceptance of my q***r, nonbinary self. I carry your courage when I bike all over Milwaukee. I carry your love of people by sharing my work, life and joy with the world.
