Spring is here, and that means castration season is in full swing! 🌱🐴

Bringing your horse to our facility for castration offers a safe, efficient, and controlled environment for both horse and handler. With access to proper sedation, sterile equipment, and a skilled veterinary team, we’re able to perform procedures smoothly while minimizing risks and complications.

At our facility, we also have the advantage of clean working conditions, appropriate aftercare, and close monitoring during recovery—something that can be harder to manage in the field. This helps set your horse up for a quicker, more comfortable healing process.

Have questions or ready to get on the schedule? Give us a call—we’re here to help make the process as stress-free as possible! 📞

Teamwork in action 👏

Dr. Kerr and Dr. Beaupre working together to ultrasound a horse’s SI (sacroiliac) joint—an important area when it comes to performance, comfort, and overall soundness.

Advanced imaging like this helps us get a closer look at what’s going on beneath the surface so we can create the best plan moving forward for each horse. 🐴

Have questions about SI pain or diagnostics? Reach out to VLAC anytime!

Improving Horse Health from the Saddle 🐎
At our clinic, we often focus on the horse—but what about the rider?
Research from experts like Hilary Clayton has shown that rider biomechanics play a significant role in a horse’s soundness, comfort, and performance. An unbalanced or asymmetrical rider can unintentionally contribute to:
▫️ Uneven loading of the horse’s back
▫️ Muscle soreness and tension
▫️ Altered gait patterns
▫️ Compensatory movement leading to lameness
Over time, poor rider posture, core weakness, or imbalance can contribute to chronic back pain and reduced performance in the horse—even when the horse itself is otherwise healthy.

What can you do to improved rider biomechanics? 🐴

If you’re local, you’re in luck! Erin Adams, Physical Therapist and Doctor of Physical Therapy, is hosting a class specifically designed for riders. This is a great opportunity to learn how to move better, ride stronger, and support your horse in the best way possible.

Where: Fit2Perform in Williston
When: Starting Sunday April 5th at noon (Sunday or Thursday at 1:30 classes!)
Cost: $180 for 6 weeks (have the option for 8 weeks on request)

Precision matters 🐴💉

Targeted hock injections can make a world of difference for horses dealing with joint pain, stiffness, or decreased performance. By delivering medication directly into the joint, we’re able to reduce inflammation, improve comfort, and help keep our equine athletes moving their best.

Every case is a little different, which is why a thorough exam and tailored treatment plan are key.

Think your horse might benefit from joint support? Reach out to VLAC—we’re here to help keep them feeling their best!
