Spending time this weekend with Heaven and Kuno. Both very sweet dogs. Heaven, a GRR alumni before my time, is a bubbly, bouncy girl and her buddy Kuno is more on the timid side, a reminder of the puppy mill dogs we rescued back in the day. They're tiny, which is weird for me, but fun!!

Welcome to the fold, Gojo! This beautiful 6-month old husky is a GRR alum and as sweet and playful as he wants to be! After a couple of hours running himself and Lolah ragged (and trying to sneak through the fence bars to get to the pool), we can all relax for a minute. 🐾😌❤️

I met Annie for the first time about five years ago. There was a death in the family and I was taking care of the dogs. She was a terrified little thing, huddling in a corner, drooling and shaking. She had lost her person and was completely uprooted from the only comfort she knew. All I could do was lie on the floor with her and stroke her head for a little while, at least until the shaking stopped.

Annie is 12 years old now and she comes to stay when her owner is away. She's still on the quieter side and still finds places to hide for her naps. But now she's all about eye contact. She follows me everywhere I go. She loves Lolah and will run around the yard with her. She has a hardy appetite. She's relaxed, she's vocal and I caught her digging up my roses yesterday. In short, she's a dog. And as they always say--better late then never.

Tucker and I go back a long way. I transported him and 45+ other Amish mill dogs from Ohio to Delaware. He was the family farm dog and at 4 years old, they just decided to get rid of him. He was my foster then, adopted out, and again when we learned he is not a family dog who should be around children or men when he was returned to Grass Roots Rescue. There was the question of whether or not this dog was adoptable or too high of a risk. I believed in my heart that, with the proper training, he would be a wonderful pet in the right home. He spent two weeks under the roof of Trinity Canine Services LLC 's House of Act Right, released to me and adopted out to an older couple who fell in love with all that Tucker is. He lives a happy life with them, particularly the husband, quirks and all. Tucker and I remain the best of pals. We genuinely respect and love each other the way old friends who've been through it together do. Being here when his owners are away is as easy for him as being home.

And I love that.

Cookie, with her mesmerizing blue eyes and her stoic demeanor. She's so very quiet, never a bark, never a growl. We get along well, Cookie and me. She'll sit in the kitchen with me while I'm cleaning or making dinner, she'll sit with me and watch TV. I'll never get snuggles and kisses from her but she'll plant those xl paws up on the arm of my chair and stick her nose in my face so I can plant a big kiss on it. I love it when she comes to stay just for the peace she brings.

This is Annie the second a phone comes out, hiding behind the couch. She's 12 and normally very skittish but she has been having a blast running with Lolah and playing with toys. She even went swimming for the first time! Okay, she actually fell in while I was testing the pool water but it counts! 🏊🏾‍♀️🐾
