"Oh the places you'll go..."

They're just shoes, well worn, well used and hard earned. They weigh next to nothing and I found it funny that something this important was so lightweight. As a runner, the young man who these belong to, gets a taste of freedom, of flight and of peace. He gets to slip them on and the world goes silent. He can run in sweats or shorts, rain or sun and fields or woods but these shoes, these wings, they take him places spectators can only imagine.

I've seen the owner of these grow from a small boy into a tall young man, ready to face the world in a few months but I hope he never forgets, the shoes that once gave him wings will always be there anytime he needs a break from the stress of life, those wings will always be tucked in the closet or under the bed and they will always give him that same sense of peace and freedom. I'm so proud of this guy for making it through when the struggles got hard and it's been such an honor to be asked to do his senior photos.

The empty stall. It’s more than just an empty space they used to fill, it’s empty hearts and empty dreams. It’s an empty spot in the field where their friends keep looking to the door and an empty spot at the feeder where they always stood. It’s an empty bridle rack, empty door where their name plate hung and an empty grain bucket that won’t see the exact same recipe again.
Working at this barn for 4 years I’ve seen most stalls get filled and emptied as horses come and horses go but this big boy has been here since I got here. I got the pleasure to see him carry the smallest of children around in circles, so proud to be trusted with the most precious of packages and in the show ring with HIS person steady on his back, with years of experience between them. I must have led him out hundreds of times and his gentle strides were always trusted without a lead line, just a gentle hand resting on his halter. Always a gentleman when it came to his grain, he would step back and let the kids come in and dump his feed in and wait patiently so they didn’t feel crowded. Our barn will be a bit empty, his name etched on the hearts of all those who loved him and we are all grateful for the time we got to spend in his presence. Love and support go out to the family who loved and raised this big OTTB and we all relish in the comfort that Seymour is now whole, fat and happy waiting in the paddock with Stormy at the other end of the Rainbow Bridge for the day His people get there.
Make sure to hug your pony close every chance you get, their time here with us is never long enough.

On the eve of Patriots Day, the eve of the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 I chose to do this project.
You see, these are just trucks. I mean, there's water and hose, tools, ladders and pumps... but there's so much more. There's seats. In those seats go the people, these people who are what we think of when we are asked "what's a hero?' They're Dads, Moms, Brothers, Sisters, Cousins, Friends and Co-Workers. They're people who have found a drive to do something for their community, found something they can't explain to anyone who hasn't sat in one of the seats. The things these trucks have seen- laughs, jokes, somber times and tears, these tools that have saved lives in the hands of professionals and shaken in the hands of rookies, water that is the same as the stuff in your sink but in the hands of a fireman, it can work magic to save your home, hose that can be a lifeline to you when you are lost in the smoke.
Before this project today I was scrolling online and I scrolled past photos of FDNY trucks that had been destroyed in 9/11, photographing these trucks tonight gave me pause to remember the 343 Firemen lost on 9/11/01 and the trucks that went with them, trucks crushed in the rubble, crushed with the memories of the things the cabs had seen... crushed without tools because you never get off the truck empty handed... crushed because Heroes run in when everyone else runs out...
As someone who is privileged to be able to drive and maintain one of these trucks I can't thank my community enough for the trust they place in us, in the pumps, ladders and tools, water and hose... And in the trucks...

Finished up a photo shoot with a couple of great horses and a sassy little lady🩷. Pedr and Maggie are in the lesson program at Hillcrest Stables in Milton, Vermont and are just about as great as they come. Pedr is a 30 year old Arabian gelding and is enjoying semi retirement just carrying the littlest ones around and Maggie is still in the competition arena with an adult rider as well as a little. The horses here are enjoying the best life has to offer with green pastures, friends and lots of love and attention. 🥰

I call these “scrap shots” totally random throw away shots that I use to try new editing techniques on. They’re never the money shot or a shot that will make it to the portfolio but they’re usually candids of the things I love the most. I started doing photography a few years ago because I wanted to capture my youngest with the love of her life, Pedr, the old Arab we leased her first year in the ring. There wasn’t an event photographer and my phone camera wasn’t that great so I invested in a starter Cannon. The next year I upgraded and added some lenses and last year upgraded to a laptop and better software, but no matter how the gear changes, it’s the love of the subject that makes the shot all that much better.

Took some time at VT Blodgett Family Farm in Fairfax VT this morning, they turned their dairy cows out to pasture for the first time this year and this will affectionally be forever known as "The Running of the Ta-Tas" then I took a few minutes to photograph her 16 day old chicken nuggets. They have a great little farm stand with eggs, beef and local honey available, right @ 2478 Main Street in Fairfax, just up the road from the riding and driving club. Check out their FB page to like and follow!
