We’re about halfway through our Tacoma for Tails Supply Drive — have you made your donation yet?

Drop off new, unopened pet supplies at Stevens Creek Toyota all month long, and join us for our big community event on Saturday, Nov. 22, 11–1 PM!

We’ll have donation bins, adoptable animals to meet, and plenty of ways to support pets in need. Most-needed items: pet food, kitten/puppy formula, treats, toys, litter, blankets, and more.

Let’s fill that Tacoma for the pets who need us. 🐾🚗💛

November is National Adopt a Senior Pet Month, and we’re celebrating the wise, gentle souls who still have so much love to give. Senior pets remind us that companionship isn’t about the number of years they’ve lived—it’s about the joy they bring right now.

Meet three of our sweetest seniors looking for the loving homes they deserve:

💛 Mabel
A soulful sunbather who loves soft beds, car rides, young kiddos, and showing off her tricks.

💛 Maisy
An affectionate cuddlebug who thrives in a quiet home where she can soak up all your love.

💛 Myrtle
A tender, gentle girl who just wants a calm routine and someone who appreciates her soft presence.

Senior pets deserve comfort, stability, and a place to feel safe. By adopting one, you’re giving them the precious gift of a loving home in their golden years.

✨ Have a senior dog at home? Tell us about them in the comments—we’d love to hear their story.

Waltz is the shy kid in class who secretly has the best sense of humor. 😉

He’s a little nervous at first (new places are big and loud, okay?), but once he knows he’s safe, out comes the silly, snuggly pup who loves zoomies, cuddles, and turning hearts into puddles.

He’s sweet, sensitive, and ready to find a patient dance partner to help him learn the steps. Once he does — get ready for the most heart-melting friendship you’ve ever had. 🩵

Come meet Waltz and fall for the quiet charm that sneaks up on you. https://www.hssv.org/waltz

This week, we celebrate the people behind the paws. 💛

Across the country, millions of animals enter shelter doors each year—each with a story, each met by someone determined to help. Behind those doors are the staff, volunteers, and partners who do the quiet, essential work of animal welfare: comforting scared pets, treating wounds, reuniting families, and creating new beginnings.

We’re proud to be part of this national movement to build a better future for pets and the people who love them. From adoptions and medical care to community outreach and shelter partnerships, every act of compassion adds up to lifesaving change.

To every shelter worker, volunteer, and partner: thank you. Your dedication and heart make this work possible—and remind us that when shelters thrive, entire communities do too. ❤️

During National Shelter Appreciation Week, we celebrate staff like Gabby - whose compassion, coordination, and care help thousands of animals find safety, stability, and love in foster homes.

As our Animal Flow Foster Associate, she’s the bridge between the animals in our care and the foster families who open their homes to them.

From coordinating transport arrivals to supporting our foster volunteers, Gabby ensures every foster parent has the resources and guidance they need to care for their foster animals - whether they're healing, growing, or learning to trust again.

Her days are full of quiet victories: a shy dog taking its first steps into a foster home, a litter of sick kittens beginning to thrive, a transport animal finally resting after a long journey.

“Every foster family helps us save a life,” Gabby says. “Being part of their journey - watching those animals grow and trust again - that's what keeps me going."

This week, in honor of National Shelter Appreciation Week, we’re celebrating the people who make Humane Society Silicon Valley what it is.

When families don’t know where to turn, they call us. And often, the person who answers is Kyoko.

As part of our Community Services team, Kyoko helps people through some of their hardest moments—when they’re scared, overwhelmed, or unsure how to care for their pets.

“I’ve learned how to listen, how to be present, and how to earn people’s trust,” she says. “You don’t always have the perfect answer. But you can be steady, honest, and compassionate. That goes a long way.”

Through programs like our Pet Pantry, vaccine clinics, and new Community Pet Clinic, Kyoko helps break down barriers to care so no one has to choose between caring for their pet and caring for themselves.

About Us

Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) has been serving people and pets in Silicon Valley for over 85 years. Having facilitated more than half a million animal adoptions, HSSV is leading the charge for animal welfare through community education programs, creative marketing techniques and effective homeless animal prevention strategies. HSSV also offers quality adoptions, affordable spaying/neutering, vaccinations and microchipping services, and pet care services to enhance the human-animal bond. HSSV’s mission is to save and enhance lives, both two-legged and four-legged.

In 2017, HSSV became the first “model shelter,” an achievement accomplished by meeting over five hundred guidelines for standards of animal care set by the Association of Shelter Veterinarians. At the heart, being a model shelter means that we’re committed to the well-being of animals while they are in our care - both physical and emotional - and we work hard to set them up for success with their future families.
