IF A CAT lies on their back near you do they trust you???
A cat’s stomach is its most vulnerable area. It has all the vital organs underneath, with no bones to protect it. A cat exposing it to you could mean two things. Cats have very nuanced behaviors and you need to look for secondary signs.
The cat might be saying “I trust you enough to expose my soft and vulnerable underside to you.
I’m ready for a fight, so I’m getting all four sets of claws and all teeth ready to throw myself into it.
With #1 the cat is either just relaxing and doesn’t want you to touch its belly, or it wants belly rubs. Most cats are doing the first, but some cats enjoy belly rubs. My girl Molly loves them. Generally you can tell by what they do after you start rubbing. If the cat likes it they’ll stay put, and maybe squirm a little to express pleasure.
If the cat hates it, sprinkle's she’ll get pi**ed off and be like “you jerk! I was expressing trust and you broke that trust by touching!” Then she will give me a kitty hug and some rabbit kicks. The kitty hug involves wrapping her front paws around your arm while biting, and the rabbit kicks are just rapid kicks with the back paws.
With #2, it’s probably a playful fight the cat wants. A cat who is not play fighting will make a lot of vocal noise and try to get away faster. A cat who is play fighting is pretty silent.
