It’s going to be HOT, and our pets need a little extra help staying safe. ☀️🐶🐱

A few extra steps can make a big difference during a heat wave:

🐾 Skip hot pavement
💧 Keep water nearby
🌳 Choose shade when possible
⏰ Walk early or late
🚗 Leave pets home instead of in the car

And don’t forget — if the ground is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

Watch for signs of overheating, including heavy panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, stumbling, or collapse.

If your pet seems overheated, move them somewhere cool, offer water, start cooling them gradually, and call your vet right away.

A little preparation can make a big difference! Here are a few ways to help your pet stay calm and safe this 4th of July:

🐾 If your pet struggles with fireworks, call your veterinarian before the holiday to discuss calming medications or other options.
🐾 Set up a quiet, comfortable space where your pet can relax.
🐾 Turn on a TV, fan, or white noise to help mask the sounds of fireworks.
🐾 Keep pets indoors and make sure their ID tags and microchip information are up to date.
🐾 Keep them busy with enrichment like a stuffed KONG toy or puzzle toy.
🐾 Take dogs for an early walk to burn off energy before the festivities begin.
