Echo is just about one year-old.
Some of his training, accomplishments-
He learned to ring the bell to go outside and go potty within 72 hours of picking him up from the rescue organization.
When I first got him, he was absolutely terrified of the car. He would not get in it. He wouldn’t go near it. He would throw up and even p**p or p*e straight on the seat or in the car. And of course, that was one of the first orders of Business with training him because I knew I would have to take him with me multiple times on a weekly basis for training and prospective work in the future. He’s pretty good in the car now.
I will say he is fully potty trained- at this point since also I have had him at two different homes and he has spent some time at a hotel overnight. Ever since I first got him he has gone on quite a few outings, especially in stores.- he has had a couple of accidents at home- within the first month and he was only about 11 or 12 weeks . Of course it is to be expected during the training process, and he had a brief setback after abruptly relocating overnight -but quickly got back on track after the confusion. So that’s great. He has never had any accident in public.- he has been to breweries and restaurants, coffee shops, many times . And especially with moving it causes a lot of setbacks with training a young dog, but we got through that.
He can be left alone inside or out of a crate for 6 to 8 hours at this point. He has never caused any damage inside of the home . He sleeps when I’m gone. Although I typically don’t leave my dog alone for more than four hours stints without a break.
Additionally, I have not had my full voice at all the entire time I have owned him. So that was an additional layer of challenges aside from moving/and a vicious break up. He knows his hand signals and verbal commands that sometimes I use an app on my phone to play the cue out loud. My voice comes and goes.
Here are some of the behaviors he knows:
Sit
Down
Settle
Touch
Look
Center
Paw
I recently taught him how to hit the crosswalk button with his nose or paw which he will do enthusiastically and on command.
I have begun, teaching him some deep pressure therapy techniques as I have learned for a training service animals.
He has mastered most retrievals he will pick up almost any dropped item. The other day he picks up like 10 clothes pins and brought them each back to me on command.
He loves kids, but he’s a little bit wary of adults. He doesn’t know.. He loves birds and he loves other dogs.
