Renewed personal plea from the FFFR President:

This is a personal and heartfelt plea to please donate to our new Community Initiative program. Through this program, we'll be able to support the work of animal control facilities and rescues local to CT as they care for our local CT dogs. We also will be able to help cover costs for vaccines and spay/neuter for privately owned dogs that we have posted and are screening to go to new homes. We have a dedicated donation link, so that we're sure that all funds donated towards this program are separated for our main rescue fund, that covers the care of the dogs still in our rescue. Please donate as generously as you can:
https://www.furryfriendsct.org/community-initiative

To get this program off the ground we need you!

With funds raised previously, we have been able to provide funding for a board and train for a dog from Waterbury Animal Control, as well as assisting with medical costs (spay/neuter and basic vaccines) for several other local CT dogs in rescues.

Now the fund is empty, and we need you to give as generously as you can for us to continue assisting in saving our local dogs!

Since 2021, FFFR has been unable to help the ever-increasing . We haven't been able to take in *even one new dog*! With this new program, we can make a difference! Together with you we can help!

The current situation in the animal welfare community is dire. Although our rescue efforts have been on hold for almost five years, we feel compelled to support the larger animal welfare community in CT in their efforts to save an increasing number of dogs. Dogs are being dumped, abandoned, neglected and abused in numbers that we have never seen before. Owners who need to surrender their dogs increasingly are hard pressed to find a facility to care for them that has the room and financial capabilities. Municipal shelters and non-profit rescue organizations are all stretched beyond the limit in their life-saving efforts.

FFFR is therefore starting a dedicated fund to help. All donations through this link will go to assist municipal shelters and non-profit rescues in Connecticut with medical care and spay/neuter for the dogs in their care, as well as necessary training/rehabilitation, and medical care for privately owned dogs when we're screening and helping with rehoming - all based upon both the dogs' needs and our financial capacity - which depends wholly on donations we receive to this fund.

Please donate as generously as you can to help our own Connecticut dogs!

The current situation in the animal welfare community is dire and FFFR is determined to help. We have not been able to take in any new dogs for a long time, and that is not likely to change for the foreseeable future. In addition to caring for the 10 dogs still in our rescue, we feel compelled to su...

Courtesy post - this dog is not in our rescue. He is part of our direct rehoming efforts. We will screen applications and coordinate with the adopter and the family. Adoptions are directly between the current owner and the adopter. FFFR will help coordinate getting dogs up to date with veterinary care/vaccines and spay/neuter prior to adoption, if a private adoption. If you would like to adopt Bentley, please fill out our application: https://www.furryfriendsct.org/adoption-application

If you are a reputable foster-based rescue and could help with placement for Bentley, please private message our page or email us at [email protected]

Bentley is a young, friendly, handsome young boy - about 1-1/2 years old. Due to a family situation having nothing to do with Bentley, he needs to find a new home. We've spoken with the owners and agree that is the best choice for him (no negative comments please - they'll be deleted). What they - and we - want to avoid is a placement that isn't right for him, so we have offered to help.

Bentley is good with other dogs and with children. He's not been tested with cats, so we're going to say no kitties.

We will coordinate with his current owners and his new family to get him neutered and up to date prior to adoption.

He's a young, active dog who is puppy-ish in many ways. He'd love a fenced-in yard and an active family.

He is house trained and crate trained.

As with any young dog, he'll need you to commit to ongoing training and socialization. We want him to mature into the great adult dog we know is in him to be.

We will ask you to transition him into the new family slowly, and will offer training support if needed to make sure the transition is a smooth one. Dogs in a new environment need a minimum of several weeks to start settling in and feeling comfortable. It doesn't happen in a day - or even in several days.

We'd love for Bentley's family to have experience with bully breed dogs.

For Bentley's sake (he's being kept for long hours in a crate right now), and for the sake of his current family, we'd like to see this happen quickly. The first step is to fill out an application, so if you're in Connecticut and would like to adopt him, please fill it out today!

And if you're a foster-based rescue that has a foster available for this truly good boy, please message us!

Let's not drag this out for either Bentley or his current family!

In 2019, we pulled several dogs from Ellington Animal Control. One of them was Ewok - now Ella. She had tons of interest, and was adopted the same year by a wonderful family. This morning her mom reached out to us with a question about another dog. She tells us that Ella is doing well! A few years ago they adopted another dog so she now has a four-footed companion. We're so happy for her and thankful to her family for giving her the life every dog deserves!

Adoptions are directly between the current owner and the adopter. FFFR will help coordinate getting dogs up to date with veterinary care/vaccines and spay/neuter prior to adoption, if a private adoption. If you would like to adopt Dexter, please fill out our application: https://www.furryfriendsct.org/adoption-application
If you are a reputable foster-based rescue and could help with placement for Dexter, please private message our page or email us at [email protected]

Dexter is a great dog! His mom has an injury that has kept her out of work for almost a year, and is not able to provide appropriate care for him, either physically or financially. We agree with her that it is in Dexter's best interests to find a new home. Any negative comments will be deleted. Let's just help this pup!

Dexter is a shih tzu (possibly mix), about 2 years old. He was purchased from a breeder (again, no negative comments please)!

He's a happy, friendly dog who reportedly is good with other dogs and with children. It's unknown as to whether he would be match for a home with cats, so we're going to say no kitties.

Dexter had his puppy shots, but is not up to date with vaccines and is still intact. FFFR will work with a private family and his current family to get him up to date and neutered prior to adoption.

We're told he's not had any medical or behavioral issues.

He has had some basic training. Any dog will likely have accidents in a new environment, until they get used to a new home and new routines, so we request that any adopter have some patience. Additionally, a male dog who is intact or newly neutered is likely to mark territory, especially if there are other dogs in the home. Again, FFFR stands ready to provide guidance and support in the new home for any training issues and to help with the transition. We want to see this boy have a soft landing in a truly forever home!

We're told that Dexter is a sweet, happy, friendly boy. He deserves the best life ever. Please consider adopting him and if you're a rescue please consider taking him into your program. For both his sake and his current mom's sake, he needs to move quickly!

We reach out to other rescues. But we cannot take new dogs into the rescue, and have not been able to do that for 5 long years.

Ghost has finished his board and train. We've posted repeatedly for a rescue to back him and/or a foster or foster-to-adopt home for him. We have had ZERO inquiries for this good boy. Until he finds a rescue and a home, we need to continue to pay boarding for him with his trainer. If you are a rescue that can help with him, please private message the FFFR page or me personally (Leslie Rich). If you have experience with special needs dogs in general or deaf dogs in particular, and would like to adopt or foster-to-adopt Ghost, please fill out our application, here: https://www.furryfriendsct.org/adoption-application

Please also donate to help us cover boarding costs with his trainer until we can find placement for him. We have been struggling financially for the past five years. We have not been able to take in one new dog for that time.

You all answered the plea and donated to get Ghost to training. Please donate just the cost of your morning trip through the drive through to help us cover the cost of his boarding with his trainer. We want him to continue in that environment. For him to do otherwise would undo all of the good work he and his trainer, Todd from Dog Speak, have accomplished together.
