On Wednesday when Rich and I sat down at the table to go over the truck, he asked me about the name plaque that Stonewell hung in the truck for him when they built his farrier rig years ago. I told him that as long as he didn’t want to take it out, that it will stay in the truck.

This week I heard that he had passed away and over the last few days seeing all of the posts shared about him I can see the love those close to him had for him and the impact he had on those around him. His daughter pointed out to me that we were actually standing together at the Empire State Farrier Association competition last year in our group photo. The world works in odd ways and brings people together and into each others lives for reasons we can’t understand, and on today’s rainy day it was nice to have a roof over my head while I worked and to look up and see that plaque on the wall of the truck.

It’s clear this industry meant a lot to Rich and I am happy to be able to carry part of his legacy on as an anvil fell silent.

Sometimes opportunities show up when you least expect them, and I want to give a special thank you to Rich Albrecht and his family for this opportunity in particular. Julia and I started the year looking to buy a new truck but we weren’t convinced it was the right time and thing for us to do right now. Fast forward to now and a text message rolls in about a rig for sale that looked too good to be true so we had to go see it for ourselves and I think it looks even better after seeing it myself! Again, thank you so much to Rich and his family as it means the world to ours.

Melting my face off and having fun doing it.

Going through the certification process you feel everything; excitement, frustration, joy, disappointment, success, failure. Regardless of the outcome you just have to remember why you’re putting yourself in the ring in the first place and get back on the horse and go at it again! I’ll be the first to admit that it takes me a minute to come down from not getting it done on the day and I know my face shows the frustration, but we move on, learn, and get better for the next one!

The second picture really spoke to me because I look like a crazy person, but we have to be a little bit crazy to do what we do 😂

My goal for this competition was to have shoes to hand in, and I managed to accomplish that. Ran out of time on my live shoeing but still happy with the work that I put in! You’ll never know what you’re capable of unless you put yourself out there and open yourself up to learning from those around you, and I sure learned a lot this weekend. Thank you to the Empire State Farrier's Association for hosting the contest and to for judging and putting on the clinic
