Bailey 7309, affectionately known as “Biggie,” is a gorgeous five-year-old “King” Shepherd—a mix of German Shepherd Dog and Shiloh Shepherd—and she is every bit as big and beautiful as her name suggests! 🐾
Biggie came into rescue as an owner surrender after her primary caregiver passed away and her remaining owner realized he could no longer give her the care she needed. When she arrived, she had significant skin issues, but with the right diet, those problems completely resolved within her first two months in rescue. Biggie has been diagnosed with a chicken allergy, so her forever family will need to be diligent about avoiding foods containing chicken. Her right ear can still be a little troublesome, but it has improved with treatment.
At around 115 pounds, Biggie is a BIG girl who only needs to lose about five more pounds. Despite her size, she is a calm, easygoing lady who spends much of her day happily lounging on her jumbo bed. 🛋️💕 But mention the word WALK and suddenly this calm girl comes alive! She will twirl, hop, and bark with excitement as she waits for her adventure. 😂
Biggie is working hard on her leash manners. She does pull, although she responds to gentle corrections—she just needs a little reminder when the excitement takes over! Her new family will need to continue working with her on leash skills. She is also building her strength and stamina after likely not having consistent exercise in her previous life. Right now, she enjoys two 15–20 minute walks each day, with plans to increase those as the weather cools. Her fenced yard isn’t really her thing; after taking care of business, Biggie is perfectly happy to stretch out on the brick patio and supervise the neighborhood. 👀
Biggie previously lived with a small dog and a cat and showed no interest in either. In her foster home, she does get excited when she spots cats while out walking, but she completely ignores other dogs barking at her or approaching her. She met her foster mom’s tiny Toy Fox Terrier with gentle curiosity and no negative reaction, even when the little one fussed at her. Because the terrier can be unpredictable, the two dogs are kept separated for everyone’s safety.
Biggie is affectionate but has an independent streak. She isn’t a Velcro dog and is perfectly content relaxing in her own space while her foster mom is home. She is protective without being overly so and has done well meeting both adults and young children. She willingly hops into the car but can be a little anxious during rides. Her previous owner said she loved car rides, so her foster mom expects this will improve as she builds confidence and gets used to her new routine. 🚙
Biggie occasionally enjoys playing with her big stuffed toys and loves a good tug toy. She is also VERY food and treat motivated, which makes training much easier! Her foster mom has her sit and settle before meals, and Biggie has responded wonderfully. She is an intelligent girl who has had obedience training and knows her basics, but she will benefit from continued practice and reinforcement.
Biggie is a dream at the vet, does well with baths, tolerates nail trims beautifully, and is completely potty-trained. Because of her size—and because she was never crated in her previous home—her foster mom does not crate her. Instead, Biggie has free roam of the living room while her foster mom is away, and she has never been destructive. What a good girl!
She may be a BIG girl, but she has an equally big heart. If you’re looking for a calm, loving companion who enjoys a good walk, a comfy bed, and watching the world go by, Biggie might just be your girl. 🐾💕
