Pretty excited about this next hatch! French copper Maran and Green Eggers to backcross for deep green moss colors. Also 18 new ducks will be coming!

Next Spring we should be all ready to fill all the chicken, duck, and quail egg orders, whether you like pretty edible eggs or want to buy hatch able eggs to start your own back yard flock.

First attempt at taking care of Bob white quail is not going so well! We received 18 through the mail 13 successfully hatch and spend a month in the brooder. Yesterday my kids and I decided to put them outside now that we won’t see many more nights below the 50s. I had Pierce and Avigail carefully work together to catch them in the brooder and put them in the larger outdoor pen. It was hilarious watching a few get away from us and we had to capture them by hand in a pretty dense forest. 2 of them we could not account for.

This morning I went to check on them out in there cage and to my shock we had a visitor. I saw a pretty gruesome scene of a hind leg quarter that had been snacked on inside the coop. I made a count of the remaining birds and had 8. The raccoon had got away with 3 of my birds. I doubled checked all the ways the raccoon may have entered and was able to close of one spot that he was able to squeeze. After, I saw the two escaped quail nearby but have yet to recapture them.

I set out a few traps to further take care of the night predators and plan to capture the others until our population increases! I am positive here on out we shouldn’t have anymore losses!

After my wife Sarah being hospitalized for 2 weeks, then our baby being hospitalized for 3 weeks… we have all finally been discharged and are now on our way home!

Bob whites at 3 weeks… they are hanging in our sunroom until it warms up and put them out in their growout pen. The next few days it will get down in the 40s then the temperature outside should be safe!

Hatch Day came early! We started the incubator with 18 Bob white quail and 5 baby chicks. The bob whites were ordered online and are still not hatched. 4 of the 5 chics hatched out on day 19! This was very unexpected as setting our incubator at 100.5 grew them much quicker than expected! It was awesome seeing my son’s response to waking up to the new hatchlings.

Unboxing BobWhite Quail purchased on Ebay and incubator bought on Amazon with the kiddos. After there is a 7 week candling update. Next update will be on Hatching day 2/13/26! Blessings.
