Pain Management Awareness is a big topic this month for us!

We all want our pets to be feeling their best and being playful. How do we recognize signs of pain? Some ways to notice in both πŸ• and 🐈 are:

- limping or walking funny
- New behaviors or abnormal behaviors
- Resting more
- licking at paws or overgrooming
- Not playing like they usually do
- Laying down funny or in a new way
- Hesitation to jump or not trying to jump on objects
- Vocalizing more

Even with some of these ways to see if your pet is experiencing pain, it can be different for each and every animal. Just like we experience pain differently, so do they!

At our clinic, we offer a multi-modal approach to pain management, which includes medication, laser therapy, nutraceuticals, weight management, and monoclonal antibody therapy. Throughout the month we will dive deeper into what can help manage pain in our furry family members!

Meet Ruby! Our clinic cat, also know as head of security. Ruby is a lovely, stinkin cute black cat that is living at the clinic. Don't get fooled, she loves this life! She is very content in her own suite, with us at her beck and call.

Ruby always let's us know when it's time for food or a good chin scratch. When the blinds are open in he cat corral, you can catch her dozing on the job πŸ˜‰

Remember to bring your cats in for their yearly vaccines! Especially those outdoor kitties! 🌳 🐈

Vaccinating even our indoor cats can help prevent upper respiratory diseases, feline leukemia virus and rabies! πŸ’‰

At our clinic, we recommend a yearly Rabies, FVRCP, and FeLV. Vaccinating for feline leukemia is especially important for our outdoor cats since they are the most susceptible to contracting that out and about. Protect your kitties! 😺

🚨 Bravery Certificate 🚨

This is Tobi and Asher, two Devon Rex kittens. They came in for a new kitten exam. They were brought home recently and needed their 3rd set of kitten vaccines and they were extremely brave and will return in 3-4 weeks for their last set of vaccines. Tobi and Asher are loving their new home and are very active little babies. We were so excited to be able to provide quality care for them during their time with us. Don’t forget to schedule your new kittens for their kitten vaccines!

🚨 Bravery Certificate 🚨

Shimmy is an 11 week old Corgi that came into our clinic this morning for a ruptured abscess. We had to clip the area up and clean it with surgical scrub. Shimmy was such a brave girl when all was being done. She went home and is on her way to recovery! 🌟

Let's talk πŸ‘„

Rattlesnakes 🐍

In our corner of west texas, rattlesnakes are still very common! At our clinic, we do carry the rattlesnake vaccine here for dogs. Here are some symptoms that you can look out for if your pet was bitten by a rattlesnake is:
- vomiting
- urinating blood
- dilated pupils
- puncture wounds (especially around paws or face)
- excessive salivation
- tremors

Response time is key! The sooner you can bring your pet to the emergency the better! The rattlesnake vaccine lessens the severity of the bite. You would still need to take your pet to be seen!

If you would like to get your pet vaccinated for rattlesnake, come on down and make an appointment!

Here is some great information regarding leptospirosis, we do carry the vaccine! Call us for more information and to get scheduled!

Spring is here! And with that comes a warning about Leptospirosis, a disease caused by infection with Leptospira bacteria.

All dogs are at risk of leptospirosis, regardless of age, breed, lifestyle, geographic location, time of year, and other factors. The following situations can increase that risk:

➑Exposure to or drinking from slow-moving or stagnant water sources, like ponds, rivers, lakes, or streams
➑ Roaming on rural properties (because of exposure to potentially infected wildlife or farm animals or urine-contaminated water sources)
➑ Exposure to wild animals (especially rodents) or farm animals, even if in the backyard
➑ Contact with other dogs (such as in urban areas, dog parks, or boarding or training facilities)
