2023 is passed, looking forward to a great dog year 2024! Last year we had so much fun. All the awesome regular dogs were here. Friends reunited, hundreds of balls chased and so many toys were shared. We had a few new dogs that fit right in with the pack. Take a look!! See you this year!

It’s been a long wet winter. Lots of people have had to cancel trips. Dogs are inside more then they like but we make the best of it here at Lucky Dog Lodge.

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.
He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. Standing before it, he saw a magnificent gate that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, when he saw a man at a desk to one side.
He called out, “Excuse me, where are we?”
“This is Heaven, sir,” the man answered.
“Would you happen to have some water?” the man asked.
“Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up'”
The gate began to open.
“Can my friend come in, too?” the traveler asked, gesturing towards his dog.
“I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.”
The man thought a moment, turned back toward the road, and continued on his way.

After another long walk, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside leaning against a tree and reading a book.
“Excuse me!” he called to the man. “Do you have any water?”
“Yes, there's a pump over there, come on in.”
“How about my friend here?” the traveler gestured to the dog.
“There should be a bowl by the pump.”
They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was a pump with a bowl beside it.
The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.
“What do you call this place?” the traveler asked.
“This is Heaven,” he answered.
“Well, that's confusing,” the traveler said. “The man down the road said that was Heaven too.”
“Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell.”
“Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?” the traveler asked.
“No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.”

This is our late Happy New Year post. It’s been a better year but always a great thing when we have your wonderful dogs here to stay with us. Some of us are a little out of practice at being with others but since we have such a loyal regular group all the dogs got to meet up with their buddies and didn’t waste anytime jumping right in. We are so lucky to be able to spend our time your loving dogs. Thank for trusting us to take the very best care and giving your dogs a great time. Lauren and Ashley

Believe and trust yourself completely. What you see and believe will become your reality. When all else fails, there are always dogs.

(The best thing about dogs is that you can act like something really good just happened, and they'll instantly start celebrating too. They have no idea what the context is. They're just always ready to party no matter what.-unknown)

It’s been a fun couple of months. We have the best dogs come and stay with us. Getting our fill before we close for fire season. We will be closed August and September. Hope there are no fires. Open again in October hopefully. Stay safe everyone.

This is Digby. Today he did something amazing and helped save a young woman who was thinking of taking her own life near Exeter.

We were at the incident as part of a multi-agency response. Police negotiators were speaking with the woman but the situation was becoming increasingly worrying.

One of the fire crews had the idea to bring along Digby, our ‘defusing’ dog. Digby helps crews who have been exposed to trauma during talking therapy ‘diffusing’ sessions.

When Digby arrived, the young woman immediately swung her head round to look, and smiled. This got a conversation started about Digby and his role at the fire service. She was asked if she would like to come and meet Digby, which we are pleased to say she did.

We wish the woman involved all the best in her recovery.
